HKIS Delegation's Visit to Singapore: A Collaborative Exchange on Quantity Surveying Professions
From 23-25 October 2024, the Singapore Institute of Surveyors and Valuers (SISV) Quantity Surveying Division (QSD) hosted a delegation from the Hong Kong Institute of Surveyors (HKIS) Quantity Surveying Division (QSD) on a three-day study trip in Singapore.
This visit fostered valuable knowledge-sharing and showcased Singapore’s QS fraternity advancements in digitalisation, sustainable design, dispute resolution, talent pipeline, professional development to prepare the QS profession to be more future ready.
On 23 October, the delegation visited the Singapore Mediation Centre (SMC), the group was received by the SMC Chief, Mr Kevin Kwek, where they were briefed on the centre’s adjudication processes by SMC leaders and seasoned adjudicators.
SISV representatives, including QSD President KH Wong, Assistant Hons. Sec. Stanley Chang, and Council Member Claire Zhang, facilitated this insightful session, highlighting SMC's role as Singapore's primary adjudicator-nominating body.
The delegation proceeded to the Jurong Town Corporation (JTC) on 24 October, where JTC, Building and Construction Authority (BCA), and Glodon representatives introduced Singapore's integration of Contractual BIM and 5D BIM in public projects. Later, the group visited Surbana Jurong (SJ) Campus, a model of sustainable design, where dynamic energy modelling was demonstrated. Council Member Vincent Leong was joining us on this visit.
The study trip concluded at BCA Academy on 25 October, featuring joint presentations by BCA, JTC, LTA, HDB, SISV, HKIS, RISM and BSIJ on talent attraction in the Quantity Surveying profession. SISV QSD was represented by the President KH Wong, 1st VP Colin Kin, Advisor Goh Ngan Hong, Assistant Hons. Sec. Stanley Chang, Council Members Vincent Leong, Claire Zhang and Eugene Seah.
The session underscored the potential for collaboration in advancing QS practices, with discussions on digitalisation initiatives, talent attraction, QS’ contributions to collaborative procurement and contracting practices and rebranding efforts for the Built Environment sector.
