Hola! While it was a hive of activity with ILTM Asia Pacific on property earlier this month, two of our Team Members Ong Wee Min, Vice President of Sales & MICE, and Genevieve Lim, Executive Director of MICE Management, were flying the Marina Bay Sands flag high at the AIPC Annual Conference in Costa Rica. Lively discussions unfolded over the fundamental question: What does the next generation conference centre look like? The conference was a homecoming of sorts for Genevieve, who was the first Singaporean to graduate from the inaugural AIPC Future Shapers programme in 2022. This program is specially tailored for developing global leaders who will shape the future of the industry. This year, we've taken a significant step forward in our partnership with AIPC by supporting the Future Shapers programme, demonstrating our strong commitment to fostering industry growth and investing in developing future leaders. As part of our support, we are giving AIPC and Future Shapers alumni access to our Virtual Meeting Platform (VMP). This cutting-edge solution allows event organisers to create virtual venues, seamlessly connecting both online and in-person audiences. It will be a valuable tool for Future Shapers as they develop their leadership skills and navigate the ever-evolving events landscape. Earlier this month, we hosted an engagement session to develop future MICE talents. Around 60 students from Singapore Polytechnic’s Diploma in Integrated Events & Project Management course visited Sands Expo & Convention Centre for a learning journey, learning about Marina Bay Sands and the dynamic meetings industry. Edeline Khoo CIS, DES, our director of MICE Integrated Services, shared about our innovative Bay Precinct Strategy – how we bring together myriad hotel, attraction, retail and dining partners around Marina Bay to offer planners and delegates a world of bleisure options. She also shared how our venue is not just for meetings or events. Rather, Marina Bay Sands is a venue of choice for many concert promoters, with international acts such as Sabrina Carpenter and The Strokes performing at Sands Expo last year. We caught up with two of our friends earlier this week and asked them why they attend the event every year. May Wong, CEO of DONG Luxury Travel Collection, comes to ILTM to connect with fellow buyers in person and to hold strategic meetings with various hotel groups. “We talk about the challenges we have, trends in Greater China, insights from various hotel groups and their needs. These meetings are not only about what we need as buyers but also what our suppliers need from us,” she said. For David Brandon, Managing Director of Savenio – Signature Travel Experiences, the wide variety of international suppliers at ITLM Asia Pacific is a game changer. He said: “I’ve been to many ILTMs. This one has completely changed the whole dynamic of ILTM in Asia. Here, we’ve got European suppliers, as well as suppliers from all over the world. It's a busy week at Marina Bay Sands, with two headline events on property: 🌊 Singapore International Water Week (SIWW) is making a big splash. Co-organised by PUB, Singapore's National Water Agency and the Ministry of Sustainability and the Environment, Singapore, the 10th edition of this premier global event returns to Sands Expo & Convention Centre to foster the sharing of knowledge and best practices in water resource management. This year, in cooperation with IFAT worldwide and organised by Messe Muenchen International Asia MMI, the SIWW Water Expo is the pre-eminent platform for the international water community to meet and create business opportunities. 🌎 CleanEnviro Summit Singapore (CESG), organised by National Environment Agency, is also back on property for its 6th edition. The summit is a global platform for thought leaders and policymakers to consider solutions that will enable a sustainable and clean environment. This year’s edition focuses on climate action, resource circularity and public hygiene. During the joint opening ceremony yesterday, guest-of-honour, Grace Fu, Minister for Sustainability and the Environment and Minister-in-charge of Trade Relations emphasised the importance of pioneering new policies to decarbonise energy use and mitigate carbon emissions. She highlighted the government’s vision of a zero-waste nation and the critical roles of closing resource loops as well as maximising resource recovery. These goals resonate with our integrated resort’s E3R Strategy – Eliminate, Reuse, Replace & Recycle. It takes a village to nurture the next generation of MICE talents and leaders. Genevieve Lim, CEM, DES, CMP, our Executive Director of MICE Management, has returned as a mentor for Singapore Association of Convention & Exhibition Organisers & Suppliers (SACEOS) Singapore MICE Challenge for a third consecutive year, coaching a passionate group of students from Temasek Polytechnic as they brainstorm the next big idea to revolutionise the MICE industry. As part of the mentoring process, she organised a learning journey for the students last month. Our Team Members brought the students on an insightful tour around Sands Expo & Convention Centre, giving them a firsthand view of how event spaces can be transformed in innovative ways, and shared about the latest in event design and technological tools to enhance meeting experiences. Genevieve said, “It’s heartening to meet students who are excited to be part of our dynamic events industry through the Singapore MICE Challenge. Having been a student myself, I am excited to leverage my industry experience to nurture the next generation of event professionals.
