Dr Thierno Balde, Coordinator of the #WHO Regional Emergency Hub, and Dr. Sennen Hounton, #UNFPA Regional Director for West and Central Africa, met this morning to discuss ways to improve response capacity to save women’s and newborns' lives during emergencies. Meeting with Senegal’s Minister of Health and Social Action, the UNFPA Supplies Partnership Steering Committee discussed key priorities for advancing the country’s healthcare system. The Minister highlighted the government's "2050 Transformation Agenda" with a strong focus on maternal and child health, as well as expanding access to health insurance for universal coverage. The discussion also addressed challenges in primary healthcare access, the need for reliable health data through digitalization, and the importance of aligning healthcare facilities with standards. Yesterday, the UNFPA Supplies Partnership Steering Committee met in Dakar, with opening remarks delivered by the UNFPA Regional Director for West and Central Africa. The Director highlighted the region’s strong commitment to reproductive health, as 20 countries have pledged to increase domestic resources and improve access to family planning 👨👩👧 and maternal health services🤱. The UNFPA Supplies Partnership Programme is a consortium of 54 national governments, donors, NGOs, implementing partners, civil society organizations, and other United Nations agencies working together to support countries in their efforts to overcome barriers to family planning and set the stage for sustainability 🌱." #UNFPASupplies #ReproductiveHealth #Senegal
