Review based on playtest; game not yet on Steam.

When I got the chance to test Kaiserpunk, I was immediately excited. Set in an alternate 20th century, the game challenges you to build and manage your own city-state while exerting your influence on a dynamic world map.

City building and production management

City building is extremely detailed. Every decision, from roads to factories to skyscrapers, affects the course of the game. Unlocking new buildings and technologies depending on the construction method adds variety and depth. I particularly liked the development of technologies such as zeppelins and bomber planes.

Long-term strategy and conquest

The long-term strategy involves forging alliances, negotiating deals and conquering over 100 regions. Each region offers its own bonuses and penalties, which requires strategic thinking. The AI opponents are challenging and the battles on land, at sea and in the air are exciting.

Production chains and resource management

The game impresses with its complex resource management. With over 100 resources to mine, harvest, process and craft, it always stays interesting. Production chains must be constantly optimized to keep the city and empire running.

Logistics and efficiency

An efficient logistics network is crucial. You have to optimize supply chains and make trade agreements to be successful. The importance of well-thought-out logistics becomes clear when even experienced armies are worthless without supplies.

Decisions and their consequences

Every decision affects the history, the economy and the fate of the inhabitants. The game reacts dynamically to all actions, making for a lively and immersive experience.

Musical background

One area where I would like to see improvements is the musical background. More calm piano pieces would give the game a nostalgic touch and further deepen the atmosphere.

Conclusion

Kaiserpunk impresses with in-depth city building, complex production management and challenging long-term strategy. With more musical pieces, the game could become a true masterpiece. I look forward to future updates and recommend the game to any strategy fan.
