On 18 October, 120 attendees and 30+ volunteers gathered for the 2nd Annual IADC DrillersPAC 3-Gun Competition! This SOLD-OUT event raised money for some great causes, including IADC’s advocacy efforts and to support Camp Hope, a Houston-based interim housing facility operated by the PTSD Foundation of America. Additionally, IADC DrillersPAC partnered with several veteran-owned businesses to host the event. …and that’s a wrap! (mostly) Yesterday was the last International Association of Drilling Contractors Advanced Rig Technology Committee meeting under the leadership of myself and Blaine Dow. We complete our tenure as co-chairs officially at the end of the year. It was such a great experience working with Blaine - does anyone doubt this? We refer to each other as our “work brother” and “work sister” because of all the committees we serve on together LOL. And we always received the most top-notch support from Linda Hsieh as our liaison, and the rest of the IADC crew. During our handover meeting yesterday, we were able to reflect on the last two years. Our top accomplishment was revamping (ahem you could say ✨disrupting✨ if you like those buzzwords) the IADC ART Conference, introducing a completely new, never before seen format with the largest number of presenters at a conference of its kind - highlighting the leading edge of what’s going on in the drilling industry. We leave the committee in the most capable hands - Trenton M. And Alex Groh will knock it out of the park! Can’t wait to see what the future holds.

⭐️ WellSharp exams are now available in Spanish, Portuguese, Arabic, & Mandarin! ⭐️ The IADC Well Control Committee kicked off an initiative to review, update, and translate the WellSharp Drilling Operations test questions. A dedicated workgroup set out to revamp the Drilling Operations courses at all levels – Introductory, Driller, and Supervisor.  The result? A revised WellSharp exam in English was made available in June, and WellSharp exams in Spanish, Portuguese, Arabic, and Mandarin are now available for the first time! 📢 Important Update: Court Extends Gulf of Mexico Biological Opinion Timeline A U.S. federal court has granted additional time for the National Marine Fisheries Service to draft a new biological opinion regarding endangered species in the Gulf of Mexico. The 2020 Biological Opinion will now be vacated in May 2025 instead of December 2024. This extension is crucial for our industry, as the original December timeline would have effectively halted Gulf operations, impacting thousands of jobs and U.S. energy security. IADC continues to closely monitor these developments and remains dedicated to advocating for optimal outcomes for our Members. Last Friday, the IADC Houston Chapter hosted a dozen of our scholarship recipients from Texas A&M University and University of Houston on board a Valaris Limited semisubmersible drilling rig docked in Galveston, TX. These exceptional students were able to observe and interact with all the systems that make operating an offshore drilling rig possible. We are thrilled to be able to provide an opportunity for the next generation of drillers to gain a glimpse into our industry.
