The data is clear: despite remarkable achievements and growing participation, women in sports continue to face barriers that limit their potential. From unequal pay to lack of media coverage and leadership opportunities, these challenges are rooted in broader economic inequities. Last weekend, 50% of our community responded in a poll that unequal pay and sponsorships are among the greatest factors impacting women's financial capital. Women athletes often earn substantially less than their male counterparts in salaries, prize money, and appearance fees. This income disparity limits their ability to accumulate wealth, invest, and plan for long-term financial security. 💰 But what does this mean? Without equitable financial capital, many women face additional barriers to staying in sports and building sustainable careers. Increasing sponsorships, amplifying media coverage, and ensuring more women hold leadership roles in sports organisations are essential steps towards creating the resources and opportunities female athletes need to thrive. Every step forward is a step towards building a fairer future. Let’s keep pushing for change—on and off the field. 💪 💬 What steps do you think can help break these barriers? We are proud to celebrate two Wedu Community members who are leading by example—Rani Pramesti, Wedu’s Executive Director, and Ayu Pratiwi Muyasyaroh, a Wedu mentor and sustainability advocate. Both were recently honoured for their transformative leadership at the Extraordinary Women Awards 2025, held at BINUS University in Jakarta and organised by the Embassy of India 🇮🇳 in collaboration with Indo-Indians. This event recognised nine remarkable women shaping the future and nurturing progress in fields ranging from education to cultural preservation. 🏆 Rani received the Leadership award for her pioneering work in enabling women’s leadership across South and Southeast Asia, creating pathways for women to rise, lead, and create lasting change. 🌱 Ayu was honoured with the Environment & Sustainability award for her passionate advocacy in mobilising youth for climate action, exemplifying leadership grounded in sustainability and impact. The Hidden Engine of Economies: Women in the Informal Sector 🌍 In South and Southeast Asia, the informal economy is a double-edged sword. For millions of women, it’s a means of survival but one that comes without the safety, agency, or rights that formal work offers. With insecure pay and limited opportunities, the nature of the informal work sector often obstructs women from building financial capital. 🙅🏻♀️ Paid care work—a cornerstone of all societies—predominantly exists in this space, where protections are scarce, and dignity is undervalued. And this doesn’t even consider the vast, invisible unpaid care work women undertake daily. These challenges are not inevitable; they are systemic. ⚖️ Bridging the gaps in legal protections, access to social benefits, and fair pay isn’t just about fairness—it’s about enabling potential. Women reinvest most of their income into their families and communities, meaning every step towards equity fuels progress for everyone. It’s time to reimagine economies that include and value women’s contributions, formal or informal, so no one is left behind. ✨ #IWD2025 #LeadWithWedu #WomenInLeadership

💬 "What if we no longer waited for the next generation to see change? What if we acted today, ensuring women have access to opportunities and a voice in shaping their futures?" These powerful words from Naw Khine Thazin Ni Win, Wedu’s Manager for Strategic Partnerships & Education Financing, set the tone for an unforgettable evening at Shangri-La Phnom Penh. On 8 March 2025, International Women’s Day, our Cambodian community came together to support women’s leadership across South and Southeast Asia. 🤝🏽 Led by Sam Sorphea, Director of Human Resources at Shangri-La Phnom Penh and a valued Wedu community member, the fundraising dinner was a testament to the impact of taking meaningful action. We were also honoured to have Sreytouch Sem, Chair of Wedu's Cambodian Board, present to extend her support and share her commitment to women’s leadership. With heartfelt stories, inspiring conversations, and collective support, the event raised vital resources to help women rise, lead, and create lasting change in their communities. Together, we’re building a world where Cambodian women—and women across the region—dream boldly, learn deeply, and lead fearlessly. #IWD2025 #LeadWithWedu #WomenInLeadership

We are on week two of our campaign to redefine leadership, and this week, we are looking at how financial capital enables and hinders women from becoming leaders. The financial barriers that women face are multifaceted. Plenty of the work that women do across the region is part of the “informal sector,” where domestic labour, caregiving, and farming are not remunerated. Structural barriers like lack of access to financial services and the gender pay gap further exacerbate women’s possibility of gaining economic mobility and financial independence. Women should not have to face unfair financial barriers to become leaders. When we become aware of how money silently uplifts some and silences others, we can make better strategies and take purposeful action to build a world with intentional leaders. Let’s create a fairer world by breaking down barriers standing in the way of a fairer future. 🌍✨ Invest in women leading the change Facebook and LinkedIn >>> https://lnkd.in/g2ZeJnnD Sources: Asian Development Bank International Labour Organisation McKinsey Global Institute World Bank #IWD2025 #LeadWithWedu #WomenInLeadership

The world needs women leaders. Leaders shape society. It is through our leaders that change is inspired, values are forged, and decisions are made that affect us collectively. Building a fairer future asks us to redefine what we see as leadership. Women’s leadership is not just inspiring; it’s essential. Research shows that women's leadership fosters innovation, inclusivity, and resilience; drives ethical decision-making, results in greater collaboration, and long-term success that benefits both organisations and society. When women lead, communities thrive, solutions are innovative, and futures are fairer. This International Women’s Day, we honour every woman who leads with care, courage, and intention. Together, let’s redefine leadership and rally behind the women who inspire change every day. The results from our March 5 poll are in, and they reveal that the barriers to women’s education are deep and complex. 🌍📚 Only 30% of children in education worldwide are girls, and two-thirds of the 900 million illiterate people are women. The barriers to education for women are not one-size-fits-all; they are contextual and intersectional, meaning that the challenges differ depending on culture and location, among other factors. Addressing these barriers requires more than just striving for equality—it’s about creating sustainable change that impacts entire generations. When women have access to education, it doesn’t just benefit them—it benefits the next generations. Let’s continue to work together to break these barriers because when women thrive, communities thrive. 🌟 #IWD2025 #LeadWithWedu #WomenInLeadership

Education is a right. Dreaming without limits is a right. Yet, for millions of women across South and Southeast Asia, these rights remain out of reach. 🫤 Dreaming is the first step towards meaningful change. Through dreaming, women start their leadership journey—envisioning the life they wish to live and the change they want to impart. Education enables dreaming by exposing women to new knowledge and diverse stories and by enabling them to forge their own unique paths. Barriers like poverty, cultural norms, and societal expectations hold women back—not just from learning but from dreaming freely and leading boldly. The cost isn’t just personal—it’s a loss for entire communities. When women have access to education and the freedom to dream, they ignite lasting change. 🌟 This Women’s Month, we are redefining leadership in order to rally the world and break these barriers. Let’s invest in education, build a world where every woman can dream, learn, and lead without limits. #IWD2025 #WomenInLeadership #LeadWithWedu
