We had the pleasure of hosting the 4th Annual Afya-Tek Meeting, bringing together representatives from the Wizara ya Afya Tanzania, PO-RALG, Coastal and Kibaha Health Management Teams, partners, and our donor, Fondation Botnar. It was an excellent opportunity to reflect on our progress during the second phase of implementation and introduce new, innovative interventions designed to ensure the scalability of the Afya-Tek program. 📢 Apotheker Tanzania at the Forefront of Health Awareness! 🌟 Apotheker Tanzania proudly participated in a crucial training session with Hon. Ummy Mwalimu, Minister of Health and Member of Parliament for Tanga Region, who urged the community to stop the arbitrary use of antibiotics due to the alarming rise of pathogen resistance. This initiative, conducted in collaboration with our organization, Doris Mollel Foundation, the Odo Ummy Foundation aims to empower community leaders and enhance primary health services by addressing pressing health sector challenges. "Misuse of antibiotics has led to a significant increase in pathogen resistance, making these drugs ineffective," stated Minister Mwalimu. "For diarrhoea, children should receive ORS and zinc unless otherwise prescribed by a doctor." She highlighted a worrying trend: antibiotic use has surged by over 65%, far exceeding the WHO's recommendation of a 30% usage cap for hospitalized patients.
