𝗙𝗮𝗿𝗺𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗲𝘅𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗡𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗘𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻 𝗨𝗴𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗮 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗲𝗺𝗽𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗲𝘅𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲 𝘃𝗶𝘀𝗶𝘁𝘀. Learning exchanges foster knowledge-sharing and build cross-regional partnerships among farmers and agricultural extension workers. Recently, farmers and extensionists from Eastern and Northern Uganda, districts of #Iganga, #Tororo, #Pallisa, #Soroti, #Gulu, #Oyam, #Lira, and #Dokolo, participated in a learning exchange on Integrated Pest Management (IPM). This exchange was organized by our Agro-ecological Innovations for Smallholder Pest Management project (EcoPM). The participants visited the St. Jude Agribusiness Center in Masaka District in central Uganda. There, they learned about innovative agroecological practices that minimize the use of inorganic pesticides in crop and livestock production and were introduced to soil and water conservation techniques. For many, the experience was transformative. Apujo Agnes, a farmer from Soroti District, shared her excitement about learning eco-friendly pest-repellent methods. She was thrilled to discover how simple, locally available plants like neem, Christmas tree, and lantana camara could safely protect stored crops such as beans and maize from pests like weevils—without compromising food quality and safety. Extensionists such as Mr. Morish Rubangakene and Mr. Odokonyero Raymond Obina from the Gulu District Local Government highlighted the need to strategically incorporate these IPM practices into sub-county development plans. They believe that embedding these innovative pest management approaches into local government strategies could significantly enhance the promotion and sustainability of such practices at the community level. As agroecological practices and sustainable pest management gain traction, learning exchanges will continue to play a vital role in building a resilient and self-sustaining agricultural sector in Uganda. #IntergratedPestManagement #RuralDevelopment

Protected areas play a crucial role in preserving biodiversity and combating #ClimateChange. 🌱 To pair biodiversity conservation with long-term development, a robust, equitable management and strong networking is necessary. The handbook 'Protected Area Governance and Management' is a practical guide for professionals in this field. It is packed with practical tools and examples on how to improve planning, management, and community engagement. Also, our experts keep updating and expanding the handbook with new input, for example on innovative financing mechanisms. #COP16 #COP16Colombia #ForNature

The Energy Efficiency and Sustainable Mobility Conference 2024 is underway, and GIZ Uganda is honoured to contribute to shaping a sustainable future for Uganda! This is part of the annual Energy & Minerals week organised by Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development (Uganda) In collaboration with the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development, we supported the development of the Energy Policy 2023, a blueprint for increased energy efficiency, reduced carbon emissions, and accessible clean energy for all. Our work with partners like Zembo and GOGO Electric is advancing e-mobility, from electric motorcycles and charging infrastructure to skilling programs that foster green jobs. These innovations are transforming Uganda’s transport sector, reducing fossil fuel dependence, and paving the way for a cleaner, greener future. As we engage in this conference, GIZ Uganda remains dedicated to building partnerships that will position Uganda as a leader in energy efficiency and sustainable mobility in Africa. #SustainableFuture #EnergyEfficiency #eMobility #JustEnergyTransition #GreenTransition
