The Uganda Institution of Professional Engineers (UIPE) President, Eng. Bosco Lepi, officially opened the two-day Reinforced Concrete Design and Analysis CPD training at Hotel Africana. In his remarks, the President underscored the importance of the training which aims at equipping participants with the much needed skills in the building sector. He informed participants that UIPE recently conducted a survey to identify the skill gap among members. As a result, a number of CPD courses have been approved by ERB to address some of these gaps. He also announced that the membership application backlog has been cleared, and new members have been successfully elected. Eng. Lepi encouraged participants to embrace innovation, emphasizing that innovation goes beyond creating new things but also about improving existing ones. He urged members to be creative in their work while strictly adhering to engineering standards and ethics. Additionally, he informed the participants that UIPE has scheduled a meeting with the Minister of Works to discuss challenges facing engineering professionals in Uganda and find solutions to these issues. He called on the participants to reflect on the skills they have acquired and those they may lack and submit their needs to the UIPE Secretariat, so that structured training programs can be organized to equip them with those skills. The session concluded with a Q&A between participants and the President, with most questions focusing on the #Engineering Professionals Bill (EPB) 2024, ERB registration guidelines issued recently, and membership registration. #UIPEUpdates
