About us
12 King’s Bench Walk, known as 12KBW, is a long-established civil set of chambers with an outstanding reputation for excellence in personal injury, clinical negligence, costs, employment, industrial disease and international travel claims. We have many other rapidly expanding specialist practice groups related to these core practice areas. Chambers has been ranked Band 1 for Personal Injury by the legal directories over the past 14 years. We are five-time winners of Personal Injury Set of the Year, confirming our pre-eminence in this area of law. Our Practice Management Team is consistently recommended for exceptional clerking in the legal directories. 12KBW barristers are at the forefront of developments in the law, having been instructed in many of the leading tort cases of recent times. We are professional and dedicated, whilst remaining approachable and friendly. Our barristers come from a range of backgrounds and we are proud of our record of recruitment based purely on merit. We are a large set, with over 90 barristers, including 14 silks, and our aim is to continue our expansion into the future. In contrast to many other civil sets, 12KBW is able to offer a service to clients, both claimants and defendants, from the smallest portal or small claims track case, to the most complex legal point in the Supreme Court or European Court of Justice. We cover civil and employment cases throughout England and Wales, employment cases in Scotland, and a range of cases in other jurisdictions. 12KBW has always prided itself on its cohesive and supportive culture. 12KBW is led by Steven Snowden KC, Head of Chambers, supported by our Management Committee. 12KBW’s Business Support Team, led by Oliver Parkhouse, Director of Clerking, provides clients and barristers alike with an efficient, proactive and effective service. A number of our barristers sit as judges, including Recorders and Deputy District Judges, act as arbitrators or are qualified mediators.

Dr David Sharpe KC SC, Joint Head of 12KBW's Sports Law Team, considers the implications of the recent European Court of Justice ruling on the Lassana Diarra case. The Court's decision marks a significant and seismic change to the football transfer system. It could lead to an increase in players moving clubs without the spectre of massive financial risk to them or their new clubs. The ruling will likely have significant ramifications in the UK. Given the exposure of the Premier League to the European transfer market, the CJEU ruling could have profound implications for smaller clubs that rely heavily on developing young talent and selling them on at a profit. I'm really, really proud of our set. A wealth of knowledge and acumen there that cannot be captured in books, and is more than the sum of its individual parts.

It was a pleasure attending “The Value of Non-Legal Work & Overcoming Adversities” online event hosted by Anna Moradi of 12 King's Bench Walk and Antonieta Alvarez with Gray's Inn. It was truly an insightful and inspiring talk in which I learnt a lot about leveraging non-legal work experience in applications for Bar scholarships, pupillage applications and applications for legal roles. I’d like to thank Anna Moradi, Antonieta Alvarez and Gray's Inn for this valuable event.

So very pleased and honoured that the Dean of the Royal Society Of Medicine has appointed me President Elect of the Pain Section Council for 2026 with a tenure of 2 years. This is a historic occasion because we believe that this will be the first appointment of a lawyer to the position in its history. Congratulations to Dr Ashish Shetty who commences his 2 year term as Section President of the Royal Society of Medicine pain section. I look forward to supporting his role. I will remain in full-time practise as Counsel throughout at Exchange Chambers & 12 King's Bench Walk.
