About us
12 King’s Bench Walk, known as 12KBW, is a long-established civil set of chambers with an outstanding reputation for excellence in personal injury, clinical negligence, costs, employment, industrial disease and international travel claims. We have many other rapidly expanding specialist practice groups related to these core practice areas. Chambers has been ranked Band 1 for Personal Injury by the legal directories over the past 14 years. We are five-time winners of Personal Injury Set of the Year, confirming our pre-eminence in this area of law. Our Practice Management Team is consistently recommended for exceptional clerking in the legal directories. 12KBW barristers are at the forefront of developments in the law, having been instructed in many of the leading tort cases of recent times. We are professional and dedicated, whilst remaining approachable and friendly. Our barristers come from a range of backgrounds and we are proud of our record of recruitment based purely on merit. We are a large set, with over 90 barristers, including 14 silks, and our aim is to continue our expansion into the future. In contrast to many other civil sets, 12KBW is able to offer a service to clients, both claimants and defendants, from the smallest portal or small claims track case, to the most complex legal point in the Supreme Court or European Court of Justice. We cover civil and employment cases throughout England and Wales, employment cases in Scotland, and a range of cases in other jurisdictions. 12KBW has always prided itself on its cohesive and supportive culture. 12KBW is led by Steven Snowden KC, Head of Chambers, supported by our Management Committee. 12KBW’s Business Support Team, led by Oliver Parkhouse, Director of Clerking, provides clients and barristers alike with an efficient, proactive and effective service. A number of our barristers sit as judges, including Recorders and Deputy District Judges, act as arbitrators or are qualified mediators.

Travelled to meet a client on Friday afternoon. It could have been the sunshine, it could have been Florence + the Machine blaring out of my speakers, or it could have been an ongoing sense of empowerment and appreciation following on from 12 King's Bench Walk International Women’s Day event the night before, but I felt incredibly happy - so much so, I thought it was Saturday at one point. I was so pleased to be doing the thing that I love, it didn’t even feel like work. What a privilege. I consider myself incredibly lucky to have a job that I love. It is academically and morally fulfilling; I am good at it; I get to contribute to society in some small way; and it pays the bills. A while ago I felt that I was being pulled in too many directions and sat down and wrote down all of the elements of my job that I was good at, those I enjoyed, and those which were expected of me. I identified which of those things overlapped and decided to focus on those elements of my job to help combat the feeling of burnout. I was Ikigai-ing without even realising it (and yes, drawing Venn diagrams in my own time without any one else telling me to do it. Each to her own 😎). Thanks to Catherine Peck for bringing the concept to the forefront of discussions on Thursday evening, and to the forefront of my subconscious over the weekend. Highly recommend giving it a go if you haven’t tried it. #womeninlaw #personaldevelopment #legalcareer #lovemyjob

Thank you to everybody who attended our most recent APIL Clinical Negligence SIG talk yesterday, in which we heard from Rachit Buch of 12 King's Bench Walk on fundamental dishonesty in clinical negligence cases. It certainly gave us a lot to think about. Thanks also to Tanzeela Aslam who works tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure these talks go ahead successfully! If there are any topics in particular you would like us to cover in the next meeting, please do get in touch with either of us. A summary/report of the meeting will feature in the next edition of the PI Focus magazine!

This evening, I had the pleasure of attending Women in Law: 12KBW Celebrates International Women’s Day, an event filled with inspiring talks and thought-provoking discussions. The speakers encouraged self-reflection on how we, as women, can build satisfying and rewarding careers in law—ensuring that success is not just about progression but also fulfillment. Beyond the invaluable insights, the event provided a wonderful opportunity to connect with like-minded women in the legal profession. Thanks 12 King's Bench Walk for hosting such a fantastic event! Here’s to continuing the conversation and supporting each other on our journeys. #IWD2025 #AccelerateAction #WomenInLaw
