Eddington Lot S2 Cambridgeshire, 4 new residential blocks, progress photos Cladding in ppc aluminium, and Mechslip with GRC features to Block A 13.5tn carbon saved using low carbon recycle grade aluminium subgrid The £55m, 373-home development is a part of the larger Eddington community, future home to 8,500 people. Eddington is being developed in collaboration with Cambridge University. The new district provides modern, affordable homes for University staff and key workers, with 1,500 homes for sale on the open market. The cladding contract for Lot S2 comprises aluminium ppc panels for the 4 blocks, in addition to Mechslip brickslip bays with GRC features in Portland Shade on Block A. The 4-5 storey buildings have all been designed and built to the Code for Sustainable Homes Level 5, BREEAM Excellent and the new Part L Building Regulations, with the new homes producing at least 31% less carbon emissions. By using Hydro low carbon, #recycle grade 4.0 aluminium for the subgrid, supplied by RJ Facade Systems, over 13.5 tonnes of embodied carbon were saved compared with standard European aluminium. Closing the Loop #aluminium #recycling: A2O Facades & RJ Facade Systems slashed the #subgrid carbon footprint installing Hydro Recycle Grade 4.0 aluminium & recycling aluminium strip from reclads 👉 Case Study https://lnkd.in/d3DgJ6em The initiative, which can reduce the net carbon emissions of the subgrid by up to 93%, was inspired following a CENTRE FOR WINDOW AND CLADDING TECHNOLOGY AGM on recycling best practices. Anthony Marsh of RJ Facade Systems and A2O's Billy Carter worked with Norsk Hydro on piloting closed loop aluminium recycling on a facade remediation in Central London where A2O was Principal Contractor. Hydro low carbon Recycle Grade 4.0 comprises 44% recycled aluminium and CO2 emissions are only 4.0kg CO2/kg aluminium - low compared with an average of 6.7kg CO2/kg for European produced aluminium and significantly lower than the global average of 16.7kg CO2/kg . Following grading tests of the existing aluminium, Alutrade Ltd collected the sheets, flashings, copings and extrusions for return to Hydro for recasting as rails and brackets for the next subgrid, completing the loop. Recasting post-consumer aluminium scrap uses only 5% of the energy required for primary aluminium, while still offering high-quality performance. The Hydro Recycle Grade 4.0 aluminium is traceable down to each individual batch; verified by DNV-GL according to ISO 14064; confirmed by EPDs (environmental product declarations) and certified by the Aluminium Stewardship Initiative. Sixty8 At The Marina, Portishead facade remediation - new photos! ‘wrapping a building site around a live building’ with 68 flats over retail Rockpanel, Hardieplank & render on one of A2O’s early PC reclads The client was the Resident Group with project manager Cumming Group, Axiom Architects LLP and Simpson TWS Challenges included remediation on a live building with 68 occupied apartments, retail units trading throughout, exposure of the marina location, the complex geometry of the building, scaffold access and loading. The new facade was installed on a fast-track, 52-week programme in 4 phases.
