Exciting progress continues in North Somerset at Gatcombe Orchard in Wrington as we prepare for our spring launch. Interest in the first homes has been strong, with an early reservation already secured. On site, construction is moving forward with more roofs now in place, scaffolding removed from several plots, and windows and doors being installed. Work is also underway to lay essential services, bringing us one step closer to welcoming future homeowners. The independent developer which wants to build nearly 200 houses on the former site of Bristol Zoo in Clifton has recorded a record turnover of £106 million for the financial year ending September 2023. And its managing director has welcomed reform of the planning system, which allows "highly politicised NIMBY-driven planning committees" to "severely restrict the industry’s ability to deliver much-needed homes." To celebrate National Careers week Shared Apprenticeships have asked me to make a post to explain why I chose construction. I have been very fortunate with my apprenticeship being able to stay with one host contractor for the entire duration. The team at Acorn Property Group have been fantastic and treat me as one of their own. I’ve had some amazing experience working with the site teams at both St. Leonards Quarter and Rolle Gardens. I chose to work in construction because every day is different and full of new challenges and tasks to complete so far I have loved every moment of it. As a site supervisor I get a good balance of office work, management and leadership as well as hands on work outdoors in all weathers! I think I would go stir crazy sat in an office all day. The best part of the job for me is seeing all the hard work and planning come together into a place someone will live in.

This development by Acorn Property Group with LiveWest will provide a total of 24 new homes (market, shared ownership and rent) in Nailsea, North Somerset. pad Design Ltd undertook the design work as part of the outline planning permission, for our original client, and followed this with the layout and architectural work as part of the reserved matters submission on behalf of Acorn. 📖 In honour of World Book Day, we’re looking back at the history of The Old Printworks in Frome, once home to Butler, Tanner & Dennis, one of Britain’s foremost colour printers. For over a century, this site played a key role in publishing. Today, it has been thoughtfully reimagined into a thriving residential community. A place where new stories are being written by the incredible residents who now call it home.

Construction is progressing well at Fairford Green, with multiple plots in Phase 1 taking shape. Foundations are in, stonework is progressing, and scaffolding is up across the site as we continue to build momentum. Alongside construction progress, planning approvals are also moving forward. Phase 2 is approved, allowing for the restoration of the Grade II listed Coln House into a collection of 4- and 5-bedroom homes. We’ve also just received planning approval for Phase 4 which will see the conversion of the former staff cottages, with applications for Phases 3 and 5 currently under review.
