We are excited to offer an inspiring opportunity for two bright, enthusiastic students to join our dynamic AEGIS Innovation team for a 12-month industrial placement. This role offers a unique blend of cutting-edge projects, hands-on experience, and professional development in a supportive and encouraging work environment. The Role:  As a Year in Industry Student within the AEGIS Innovation team, you will work directly with our Head of Innovation on exciting projects across our five key areas: Generative AI, Virtual Reality, Condition Based Maintenance, Air Quality, and Additive Manufacturing. This placement offers a chance to contribute meaningfully to the future of rail engineering while developing invaluable professional skills. Your responsibilities will include: Contributing to innovative projects from concept to delivery Collaborating with cross-functional teams to develop new solutions Conducting research and analysis to support decision-making Supporting the development and testing of new products/services Participating in innovation workshops and brainstorming sessions Preparing reports and presentations for stakeholders Essential Requirements: Currently enrolled in a relevant degree programme with a 'year in industry' option (e.g., Engineering, Computer Science) Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills Natural curiosity and inquisitive mindset Creative thinking with the ability to approach challenges innovatively Conscientious and hard-working attitude Strong first principles thinking Desirable Skills: Strong academic performance Excellent written and verbal communication skills We offer a competitive salary of £25,000 per annum, 24 days annual leave plus bank holidays, regular training and development opportunities, and the chance to work on exciting projects with the latest technologies. You will also receive dedicated mentorship from our Head of Innovation, regular performance reviews, and career guidance throughout your placement. Our vision is to be recognised and respected globally as the railway engineering consultancy of choice.   The Role: We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior/Principal Safety Engineer to join our team. The ideal candidate will be a self-starter who can assume responsibilities with minimal direction and possess extensive experience in the rail domain. This role is integral to ensuring the safety and reliability of our projects, with a focus on CSM-RA delivery, hazard identification, and operational safety. Knowledge of ETCS would be desirable.   Key Responsibilities: Deliver Common Safety Method for Risk Evaluation and Assessment (CSM-RA) to meet regulatory and client requirements. Create and maintain Hazard Record, facilitate hazard identification workshops, and conduct thorough risk assessments. Apply knowledge of EN50126 standards to enhance safety processes.   Essential Requirements: Minimum 5 years proven rail experience Strong skills in designing and delivering safety plans, including the creation of Hazard Record and risk assessments.     We’re seeking experienced Rolling Stock Engineers with a Maintenance bias to join AEGIS Rail, (a part of the IKOS GROUP). Through the daily application of our core values – integrity, respect, excellence, passion and care – our goal is to delight our customers by giving excellent service, whilst providing a stimulating and rewarding working environment for our employees to thrive in.   The Role: As a part of the Rolling Stock Engineering team, you will be involved in the delivery of a wide variety of maintenance engineering projects. The key focus of activity will be maintenance optimisation, helping clients such as Train Operators or Rolling Stock Leasing Companies to develop maintenance and overhaul manuals, extend or optimise schedules, condition-based maintenance or justify continued service operation of assets. In addition to maintenance projects there will be opportunities to be involved in other Rolling Stock engineering projects such as problem-solving tasks or feasibility studies. As you might expect, the Rolling Stock team is not only involved in passenger rolling stock. We also undertake projects on locomotives as well as On-track Machines and engineering vehicles. The Rolling Stock type might be electric or battery and diesel powered but it may also be new, state-of-the-art technology such as battery / battery hybrid. The role is hybrid, however a flexible mindset is essential. You may be required to work on-site at our client’s premises for a period of time, as well as in our Derby office or other locations as the job dictates.   Essential Skills/Knowledge: - Proven background in Rolling Stock Maintenance or Fleet Engineering and project delivery, for example - Engineering department of a Maintenance Provider, Train Operator or Rolling Stock Leasing Company. - Experience of working in the depot environment. - Experience of applying professional engineering judgement to support engineering projects. - Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Desirable Requirements: - Engineering Degree (BEng or MEng) or equivalent preferred - Knowledge of engineering safety management and its application within the railway environment or equivalent would be an advantage.
