A Greener Future

We launched something momentous this week at GEI15. After 17 years, A Greener Festival begins a new life as A Greener Future. Our new visual identity is built on our values: a bold, unapologetic expression for a greener future. As a not-for-profit, we’ve spent nearly two decades pouring all we have into the sustainability of the live sector. We have always been about real action that raises the bar, with continuous improvements. Quality over quantity. In our new incarnation, we broaden horizons and raise ambition to do the important work of bringing the whole events, music, entertainment, and sports ecosystem into more sustainable structures and ways of operating. We began with the festival sector and over the years now work with the whole events and live ecosystem for instance with the Greener Arena, Greener Tour and Greener Supplier branches and within sports, hospitality and ceremonial events as well as music. Our story reflects the evolution of sustainability in the events and entertainment sector and in society at large. It’s no longer a niche, it’s an all-encompassing direction of travel where all the pieces are starting to fit together for a greener future for us all. CONGRATULATIONS FOR De Zon and Komm Schon Alter 🌿 AGF are delighted to announce that De Zon and Komm Schon Alter are successfully certified as a 'Greener Festival 2024- Commended!' Commended signifies a well-managed, environmentally aware event going beyond expectation to make positive change. "The festivals implemented several green initiatives to minimize their environmental impact. The food and beverage offerings were exclusively vegan and vegetarian, with all caterers sourced from the Netherlands. Additionally, the festival provided work opportunities to youth with barriers to employment through the Rise program - handling litter control on site and off-site These initiatives demonstrated the festival’s commitment to sustainability and social responsibility. One particularly special initiative was the inclusion of elderly at the event called 'speed dating with Grandmas and Grandpas' which brought a very gentle and kind atmosphere to the event." 🌱 De Zon and Komm Schon Alter have demonstrated a passionate drive for a greener festival with a focus on best practice going forwards. The team have shown excellent efforts and a clear determination to continue to improve, to protect the environment and enhance positive stakeholder connections. The festival also stood out for its Mobility Plan, promoting public and collective transport, with excellent city-wide connections. 🌱 We’re happy to announce the release of the NAA Green Guide for Arenas Developed with our experts at A Greener Future (AGF) and contributions from the broader industry, the National Arenas Association (#NAA) has launched the Green Guide to help UK and Ireland arenas take on environmental, social, and governance best practices in live events. Our CEO, Claire O'Neill, said: "It is vitally important that venues act now to prevent negative impacts on the environment, provide safe and fulfilling spaces for people, and manage risks and opportunities posed by climate change and market transformation. Venues are the home of live entertainment. This collaborative work is a significant step to getting the live sector’s house in order, with manageable steps towards greener arenas." Claire Cosgrave, NAA Green Guide Lead, said: “The National Arenas Association Green Guide presents an accessible, action-orientated resource to help our member venues navigate the complex world of social and environmental sustainability. By focussing attention on a set of shared objectives, we believe the guide can help to drive progress in aspects common to all venues, regardless of size, age or stage of sustainability journey. Working with the experts at A Greener Future, the guide covers a vast range of detail with practical steps for venue operators to take and engage key stakeholders on including promoters and event audiences.
