📣 It’s announced – our new ‘dance powerhouse’.... Revealing the opening programme of Sadler’s Wells East! 🎊 Sadler’s Wells East, our brand-new venue in Stratford, east London is opening in February 2025! Situated in the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, Sadler’s Wells East forms part of the East Bank cultural and educational quarter, alongside the BBC, London College of Fashion, University of the Arts London, Victoria and Albert Museum and UCL East, and is supported by the Mayor of London and LLDC.     The venue offers ‘dance from every angle’ - so, get ready for a range of styles: everything from hip hop to bharatanatyam, ballet to dance theatre, vogue and house.   The inaugural season features over 20 productions, including 7 UK Premieres and 10 Sadler’s Wells co-productions and commissions. It’s a new kind of cultural destination offering global perspectives, local roots and making national impact.     Our opening show is Vicki Igbokwe-Ozoagu's Our Mighty Groove, which features a community cast from east London alongside professional dancers from Uchenna Dance. London-based artists are championed throughout opening season, which culminates in an exciting new collaboration with Stratford East.     Sadler’s Wells East provides a home for some of the most exciting dance being produced across the country, and our opening season will indlude work by artists and companies from Manchester, Birmingham, Ashford, Leeds, Newcastle, Leicester and Cardiff.    In addition, Trajal Harrell, Mythili Prakash, and Emma Martin make their Sadler’s Wells debuts as the programme shines the spotlight on leading choreographic voices from around the world.    Tell me more? Our new venue features a flexible auditorium which will be transformed, at various points, into a skatepark, a club dance floor, a photography studio and an immersive rave experience!     The building is also home to two educational facilities, nurturing dance talent. Academy Breakin’ Convention, the UK’s first free Level 3 Extended Diploma in Performance and The Rose Choreographic School is an experimental research project, which sees dance artist develop their own choreographic practice..    Our building will be open to the public throughout the day, and has a public performance space, The Dance Floor, in our wrap-around foyer, which will give a platform for community groups, guest artists and more. Six state-of-the-art studios will enable dance artists to develop and create new work, and the theatre will be a new production base and opening venue for some of Sadler’s Wells’ own productions. Connecting locally is also key to us, with a strong audience development focus, and a target is 50% of new jobs will going to local people.     To browse the season and find out more about Sadler’s Wells East https://lnkd.in/ebM9bDm2

🤩 Three reasons why you should go to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival if you love theatre 🤩 Last week a group of us from AKA UK headed up to Scotland for the launch of the Fringe. For some, it was to experience the festival for the first time, some were returning to their homeland, and for Rachael Beaty, Account Manager at AKA, it was returning to the place she fell in love with theatre... The Edinburgh Fringe Festival is truly like nothing else in the world. We saw some fantastic shows, caught up with friends in the industry, and did the usual running through the cobbled streets to squeeze in as many shows as possible. On the train home, it got her thinking why Edinburgh is so special- here’s her top three reasons you should make a trip: 1.     There’s nothing quite like seeing a show at the start of its journey. We saw some truly groundbreaking theatre and exciting new writing. There’s a wealth of enormously talented artists on the journey to be the next Fleabag/Baby Reindeer runaway success, and it's special to see the start of that journey.   2.     The Fringe encourages you to take risks. Whether it is risking pioneering theatre making in a completely new form, workshopping brand new musical theatre writing like Drop Dead Gorgeous, revitalising a classic with hilarious and heartwarming new writing (Cyrano) or pushing the boundaries of bravery by telling your own story on stage (Faghag), everything we saw felt new and exciting.   3.      It reminds you that theatre is a community. Whether it was catching up with old friends, taking flyers from theatre makers and talking about their passion, watching street performers fill up the Royal Mile, or filming the latest TikTok trends outside Edinburgh Castle with willing actors on their only day off. The Fringe makes you feel like you’re part of something truly unique in the theatre industry.   We're excited to read about the rest of the Festival until the end of August, and are already looking forward to EdFringe 2025.
