Exciting News! Today marks the beginning of a new era as Allwyn begins operating The National Lottery. Camelot has done a great job over the last three decades, generating over £48bn for almost 700,000 community, sport, arts and heritage projects in the UK and creating over 7,000 millionaires. We’re excited and privileged to take over the running of this national treasure. Over the next 10 years, Allwyn’s ambition is to offer more games, attract more players, inject more entertainment, create more winners, and raise more money for National Lottery-funded projects. National Lottery winners with joint winnings of over £35 million recently finished a makeover project for Canine Partners, a UK charity that partners specially trained assistance dogs with people who have physical disabilities. The 30-strong group of winners transformed a two-bedroom holiday home in Leicestershire - which will be rented out to people and families who use assistance dogs – with tasks including painting, building specialist furniture, and even planting a dog-friendly herb garden! The team of volunteers included millionaires Ruth and Peter Doyle from Wiltshire, who led the project’s painting team where Peter put his skills from a previous decorating career to work. Every time players buy a National Lottery ticket, they help generate £30 million each week for projects both big and small. #SocialValue #Volunteering

October is Black History Month, and this year’s theme is ‘reclaiming narratives’ to encourage and recognise the importance of correcting narratives surrounding black history and culture. This week, we hosted a virtual session with special guest Emmanuel Asuquo, financial adviser turned renowned TV presenter and author. Emmanuel shared his own experience of reclaiming his narrative, touching on his journey from being raised on a council estate to his successful career in the finance industry. Clarence Kuyoro BSc (Hons) Cert CII (MP), Chair of our culture community, also highlighted the importance of sharing stories and experiences, as ‘you never know who you’re going to inspire, reach or teach’. #BlackHistoryMonth

Since the first draw in 1994, The National Lottery has raised over £49 billion for Good Causes and awarded over 690,000 individual grants to projects and organisations, making a huge difference to local communities. #NationalLottery30 #GoodCauses #GameChangers

To mark World Mental Health Day, today we hosted a panel discussion exploring how mental health shows up in different social groups and cultures. Led by colleagues across different teams, we welcomed special guests from National Lottery-funded projects, with representatives from IRIE Mind, Wimbledon Guild and NeuroRocket, raising awareness of varying lived experiences of mental health. While conversations around mental health are important to have all year round, the team found it beneficial to learn from each other and understand how they can best support colleagues and friends in the workplace. #WorldMentalHealthDay #MentalHealth

Participant protection is integral to our plans to transform The National Lottery responsibly. Which is why we’ve introduced a new limit of ten scratchcards per store transaction. This is the first time scratchcard purchase limits have been introduced in National Lottery retailers across the UK, matching the existing limit for authorised online retailer partners, which we’ve rolled out alongside ongoing training for retailers on preventing underage play through our ‘Operation Guardian’ programme. The new safeguard will help minimise excessive play, grow The National Lottery more responsibly, and help to generate even more money for Good Cause projects by more people playing a little. #ParticipantProtection #SocialResponsibility #OperationGuardian

Our National Lottery 30th Birthday celebrations continued this week with the unveiling of a Heritage Tree land-art on English Heritage’s Whitby Abbey, Yorkshire. This breathtaking piece, which spans the size of four Olympic swimming pools, was created by renowned land artist, David Popa. Recently, our CFO, Alan Artz and Director of Procurement, Simone Marcomini, got the Allwyn procurement team together for a fantastic cause, taking part in a charity 50k walk in support of Cancer Research UK (CRUK). Raising £12,485 for the charity, the team spent their Sunday not only demonstrating a huge amount of resilience and determination – 50k is no mean feat! – but laughing, joking, and discovering lots about each other along the way. Thank you to the team; Ciara Cox, Samantha Shaw MCIPS, Clara Rincon Gomez, Armandeep Gill, Martin Attfield, Samuel Tucker, Jackie Lovern, Katie Gwinnell, Zoe Y., Amar Varia and to everyone who showed their support and to all the generous sponsors. Congratulations, team! #CancerResearch #CharityWalk #UltraChallengeWalkJogRun #UltrapathThamesChallenge
