About us
Amicus is a small legal charity which helps provide representation for those facing the death penalty in the US. We believe the death penalty is disproportionately imposed on the most vulnerable in society, violating their right to due process and the concept of equal justice before the law. We are not a campaigning organisation. We believe we can make the greatest difference through active involvement in frontline work. Our aim is to fight for justice on death row in the United States.

The United States has now reached a significant milestone with 200 exonerations, Larry Roberts being the 200th person. This number represents 200 individuals who have suffered unjust punishment and trauma for crimes they did not commit. Each of these lives endured years of longing for freedom. While we celebrate these exonerations, we must also remember those innocent individuals who still face the death penalty. To learn more about life on death row, sign up for Amicus' Death Penalty Training in October: https://lnkd.in/ecsHjab

We were absolutely honoured and humbled to be hosted by A&O Shearman at their networking event for us in Belfast. A special thanks to Niamh McClosky, Robert Thompson and Heather Mowbray for their amazing support and enthusiasm. We'd also like to thank to our guest speakers Dr. Liz Vartkessian (Advancing Real Change, Inc.) and Niall Carlin (The University of Law). We could listen to them speak all day long!
We recently hosted a networking lunch with representatives from Amicus ALJ. The charity advocates for equal access to justice for those facing the death penalty in the U.S., and we've partnered with them for several years, offering pro bono support. They were joined by Dr. Liz Vartkessian, Advancing Real Change, Inc., and Niall Carlin, The University of Law, who took part in a panel discussion on the U.S. death penalty and its global effects. Thanks to all attendees for making it an informative event, and to Niamh McCloskey and Robert Thompson for organising the event. #ProBonoSupport #EqualJustice #DeathPenaltyDebate
