Not any old Sunday! First The Jewellery Show, where our founder Arabel Lebrusan joined David Brough (Jewellery Outlook) and Greg Valerio MBE (PeaceGold™) to explore the future of sustainability in jewellery - honestly. Whilst Greg highlighted how peace mineral cooperatives have the power to abolish cycles of poverty by affording mining communities sustainable autonomy, Arabel discussed our collective need to slow down and remember the intrinsic value of precious materials. Metals and gemstones are formed over deep time through complex geological and cosmic processes, she reminded us - they're survivors of the immense timescales of the universe's evolution and should be respected as such, not viewed as pound signs through the lens of capitalist gluttony. Then it was a Piccadilly Line dash to the Professional Jeweller Awards, where Lebrusan Studio was shortlisted for Corporate Social Responsibility Retailer of the Year. Sadly it wasn't our year, but we'd like to wish huge congratulations to Mappin & Webb., who did scoop up the title. An equally hearty 'Well done!' to our supplier Hockley Mint, whose momentous steps towards energy efficiency at their facilities were recognised by the Corporate Social Responsibility Supplier of the Year award - and to everyone else celebrating their successes this year. It was the ultimate tonic to touch base with old friends and ignite new connections with the likes of the lovely Fay Cannings of Seekd. ✨❤️ (Thank you for the photos, Stuart Pool!) #jewelleryshowuk #sustainablejewellery #ethicaljewellery #sustainability #peacegold #ethicalgold #professionaljewellerawards #pjawards #professionaljeweller

The Lower Sixth have been working hard on their jewellery projects this term, and the DT department recently hosted three industry professionals to run an evaluation session with the group, including a judging of their final pieces. In attendance were Arabel Lebrusan (founder of Lebrusan Studio, widely considered as leading the ethical jewellery movement), Rachael Taylor (leading jewellery editor, author, speaker, and brand consultant), and Chris Oliver (Head of Professional Training at the Goldsmiths’ Centre). 💎 The morning gave the students a different perspective on jewellery design and manufacture, demystifying the industry and encouraging them to see it as a viable, exciting career choice for the future. An impressive array of final pieces were on show, ranging from rings and bracelets to necklaces and earrings. A special congratulations to prize winners Grace Simmonds (Best Final Piece), Laurence Cole (Highly Commended) and Jonty Pearson (Highly Commended). 🔨 💍

We are overjoyed to announce that we've made the shortlist for Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Initiative at this year's Professional Jeweller Awards! In the past 12 months, we've: • Continued to donate a fixed quarterly sum to The Water Project's work in Sierra Leone • Continued to plant trees in the Andes for every jewel sold via One Tree Planted • Launched our new ‘Propose with a Gemstone’ service to promote slow and considered purchasing • Unveiled a curated stock of recycled diamonds and gemstones for our clients to choose from • Continued to use traceable artisanally-mined materials like Fairtrade Gold, Fairmined Gold and Ocean Diamonds • Remained committed to small-scale local manufacture, maintaining our NAJ Created in the UK license in doing so • Used our voice to promote LGBTQ+ visibility and inclusivity in the wedding jewellery space, supporting independent local businesses at Christmas and embracing circular models • Begun reimagining the idea of ‘misfits’, conceiving a new collection using entirely broken, discarded and reclaimed precious materials ... And we're really grateful for the recognition! A big thank you to the decision-makers and a HUGE congratulations to our fellow finalists. Best of luck! 😘👏✨

Love to see Queen Letizia of Spain still rocking her Lebrusan Studio Filigree Links bangle after all these years... Especially to an occasion as special as the ceremony marking the 10th anniversary of King Felipe IV's proclamation. After all - sustainable fashion is investing in staple pieces that you'll in love with time and time again 💛

"We are the ethical jewellery movement. We are artists, designers, manufacturers, traders, retailers, journalists, workers, citizens of the world. We love jewellery, but we don’t love jewellery that facilitates the abuse of Planet Earth and those who inhabit it. This manifesto is an invitation for you to join us in our mission to change the world, one gram of gold at a time." This week, we present the Ethical Jewellery Movement Manifesto; an opportunity for us to share our vision of the world we'd like to inhabit. For more than a decade, our founder Arabel Lebrusan has been seen as a pioneer of the ethical jewellery movement. But, when interviewed by a journalist a little while back who asked her to explain the basic principles of the ‘ethical jewellery movement,' she realised she'd never written them down on paper. “Years ago, I might have found this task frightening, but today my vision of the world I’d like to inhabit is unfaltering. Articulating this vision as six clear points has proven a cathartic exercise. I hope the manifesto will offer an optimistic, tangible set of goals for others like me to work towards, too. I'd feel proud if my legacy were a positive offering to the jewellery industry.” Follow the link to read the manifesto and learn how you too can join the #ethicaljewellerymovemement.

Fair Luxury and Christina T. Miller Sustainable Jewelry Consulting recently hosted an Open House session featuring the PeaceGold project. The recording is now on the Fair Luxury YouTube channel: https://lnkd.in/eJJk3T2s This was the first time that this pioneering initiative had been presented to the ethical #jewellery community. The project could be transformational for the artisanal #gold miners in the Democratic Republic of Congo, but it needs our support to make it a reality. You will be the Messenger • 2023 • Found axe, sterling silver, natural diamonds and rubies • Arabel Lebrusan From 1991 to 2002, Sierra Leone endured a devastating civil war marked by brutal conflicts over diamond territories. Thousands of men and children faced mutilation with axes to prevent them from mining diamonds that might be used to support government troops. This artwork belongs Arabel's body of work 'The Book of Horrors and Hopes,' which serves as a diary chronicling the stories she’s encountered throughout her jewellery career and her artistic responses, aiming to somehow digest its brutality.

We're delighted to announce that Arabel Lebrusan - artist, designer, creative activist and the brain behind the Studio - has been named on the @ProfessionalJeweller Power List 2024. Arabel has dedicated almost two decades of her life to jewellery that tells beautiful stories, constantly imagining new ways to use her art and heirloom jewels as active vessels for change. Most recently, she's turned her attention to discussions around decolonising gold and diamonds and reimagining the idea of 'misfits' by championing discarded materials through her designs. Huge congratulations to Arabel for this recognition - and to every other deserving visionary who made the list, too. You rock! ⭐
