Architecture Initiative has been working with West Northamptonshire Council to re-establishes its office headquarters in the heart of the town centre and optimise council assets for regeneration. Securing the future of predominately historic buildings with effective, worthwhile uses that will boost the local economy is a rare opportunity that has real regenerative potential for the town centre. Promoting the optimisation and reinvention of existing buildings, particularly where there are opportunities to provide community benefits is something we firmly believe in. It’s great to have my article published in the Architects Journal today. Could a solution to the housing crisis also save our high streets? Thousands of new homes could be created from empty shops but we need to convince the public and planners about the benefits Full article - Architects' Journal: https://lnkd.in/ehw3Msum

Planning Approved!! Kingston Riverside is one of a several regenerative, mixed-use schemes on highstreets that we’ve been working on this year as developers and local authorities grapple with the challenge of re-awakening and re-populating our town centres. As creators of future places, we believe that genuinely sustainable mixed-use urban development must foster balanced and diverse communities. This includes space for families, active and engaging commercial offerings at street level, promoting local businesses and a focus on community integration. In order to revive our high streets, we need to re-imagine them as places to live, work, play and thrive. Commercial and retail (use class E) needs to be resized not replaced, evolved not eliminated. We have sought to do this with our proposals, creating a richer mix of uses, with residential use alongside a re-imagined, flexible commercial offering, to create better financial, commercial and social value for the future of Kingston Upon Thames. The proposal provides 34 high quality apartments set around a podium garden space and children’s play area totalling 466sqm of communal amenity space, which includes a roof terrace overlooking the River Thames and Hampton Court Palace gardens beyond. Looking forward to getting started on building this one out in the near future! For more information: https://lnkd.in/dZ3HKAtr
