Arriva Nederland has placed an order for 187 electric buses to serve the Brabant area. Arriva won the new contract to continue serving the West Brabant region earlier this year. A key part of the successful bid was the plan to future-proof the network with faster and smarter transport options including investment in the new electric fleet. Our team at Chiltern Railways have begun a fleet refurbishment in partnership with Porterbrook and Arriva TrainCare which will transform passenger comfort levels on-board the Class 168 fleet. The £12 million refurbishment will see 25 trains, including 76 carriages, being fully modernised with USB sockets, improved WI-FI, new heating/cooling systems, a fresh new interior and an exterior re-paint. The work will be undertaken by Arriva TrainCare at its Crewe depot. Arriva Hungary is to be the first operator of an electric bus fleet in the Hungarian capital of Budapest having won two zero-emission bus tenders, with contracts awarded and signed today ⚡ 🚍 📝 . The contracts will run for 12-years and were awarded because our pan-European expertise in fleet electrification. We will introduce 82 electric buses from the end of 2025, with an option for a further 21 👏. The contract awards follow an investment in the electrification of our Andor depot in Budapest – a programme which began more than two years ago. Today we were proud to take part in a ceremony to welcome a new fleet of electric buses into service alongside our transport partner TRIESTE TRASPORTI S.P.A. and the Municipality of Trieste. The first batch of 13 electric buses are entering service now, with a total of 137 vehicles expected to be in service once the fleet transformation completes in 2030. This first step will immediately reduce carbon emissions by nearly 800 tons a year, a figure that will grow to around 8,000 tons a year in 2030. Attending the ceremony was Arriva Italia Managing Director, Angelo Costa and Managing Director of Trieste Trasporti, Aniello Sempliceas, as well as the Mayor of Trieste and representatives from the regional government. Our teams across Europe are at the heart of their communities and Arriva Nederland brought this to life on Saturday by opening their depots across four locations to the public, attracting 2,300 visitors. Colleagues also invited their families, providing an insight into life at Arriva. There were behind-the-scenes tours of the railway workshop and the chance to operate a train simulator 🚄. Budding bus drivers even tested their skills on real buses!🚍 It was a moment of pride for our colleagues, but also a chance for communities to learn about the many employment opportunities available at Arriva and inspire a new generation to choose passenger transport as a career.
