7 things that I would like you to understand about PTSD, and my complex PTSD, for World Mental Health Day 2024. For the more detailed version, please see my blog link in comments. Image description: Carousel of 9 images, all black squares with a photo of Charlie and yellow text as follows: 1 7 things I want you to understand about Complex PTSD by Ausome Charlie for World Mental Health Day 2024 2 No, PTSD is not just about experiencing psychological triggers and flashbacks! 3 Complex PTSD is not caused by one major trauma; it is a snowball effect, ‘all the trauma’ 4 It can be hard to identify, because some symptoms such as hypervigilance (perceiving threats everywhere) are mistaken for other conditions, like Generalised Anxiety Disorder 5 I do not recommend trying to get a diagnosis of complex PTSD. Personally, my diagnosis was a horrific, unnecessary, retraumatising process. 6 My mental health has been hugely improved by taking Sertraline, even though I am not depressed! It helps with my anxiety and my PTSD symptoms. 7 Personally, I find it harder to advocate for my needs from PTSD, compared with my more tangible needs from being autistic. The lack of awareness about how PTSD can manifest is one of the disabling factors. 8 Complex PTSD is a commonly co-occurring mental health condition for many folk with neurodevelopmental differences... but it does not have to be! 9 Need a mental health speaker? In addition to playing guitar, fixing laptops and amps, and doing ADHD speaking events, I am working on a movie script. This movie is about me being in the same boat as a beautiful but feisty and emotionally-dysregulated female, attempting to cohabit peacefully, but never knowing when she might turn on me and eat me alive. It's called: The Wife of Si #ADHD #AuDHD #Neurodiversity #RSD #EmotionalDysregulation

Increasing the strategic impact of HR professionals | Connecting HR with support, development and community.
You may or may not be aware that October is ADHD Awareness month. Since my late ADHD diagnosis last year (at the age of 50), it's become something I am VERY aware of on a daily basis and I also try to do my best to support and provide an outlet for people experiencing similar. I have a community for HR professionals who either have or just suspect that they have ADHD and I try to champion others who are bringing awareness in the neurodiversity space and providing the support and community needed. If you haven't already, why not grab a coffee and have a watch of the fascinating conversation I had with Charlie Hart recently about her own journey and the great work she now does in this space. https://lnkd.in/dsfCSxsw #adhd #adhdawareness
