Would you mentor your CEO? 🤔 As part of our reverse mentoring scheme, some of our junior colleagues mentor senior leaders on topics that they're experts in, or to share their valuable experience. Mary, one of our Release Coordinators, is mentoring our AXA Health CEO, Heather, to better understand the experience of our black colleagues so that she can gain new perspectives to help her drive positive change. Being self-employed doesn’t need to be a risk. With the right strategies and mindset, you can turn challenges into opportunities. Check out these top tips from successful small business owners to help you thrive: 🕰 Master time management: One of the biggest challenges for small business owners is time. According to our latest research, 61% of those we polled said they struggle to fit everything in. Prioritising tasks and delegating when possible is key to staying on top of things. 📊 Plan for unpredictable cash flow: With 45% of SME owners reporting that cash flow issues make running their business harder, building a financial cushion and flexible budget is essential for navigating slower periods. 🧘♀️ Set boundaries for work-life balance: The lines between work and life can blur when you're running your own business, with 44% of owners finding it harder than expected. Set clear boundaries to protect your personal time and avoid burnout. 🎩 Step outside your comfort zone: Small business owners often find themselves wearing many hats. A third admitted to lacking expertise in areas such as legal or marketing. Be open to stepping outside your comfort zone, continually learning - and don't be shy to seek help when needed. 💻 Embrace the Paperwork: It may not be glamorous, but staying on top of paperwork is critical to your business's success. Our research found that 29% of those polled admitted feeling swamped with paperwork. Use tools to streamline and stay organised, keeping your operations smooth and stress-free. What’s the biggest challenge you face as a small business owner, and how are you tackling it? This time on AXA Diaries, we spoke to Lara Brooks-Simpson, Pricing & Controls Governance Manager, about his experience getting involved with one of our employee networks at AXA UK. The REACH (Race, Ethnicity & Cultural Heritage) network raises awareness of the importance of a diverse workforce and champions equal access to opportunity. Like all our employee networks, it's also a great place to meet people, share experiences and learn new things 💡 "Working with a diverse range of people makes an organisation more candid, and a reflection of wider society. I'd recommend a career at AXA without hesitation. I've been able to develop in many facets of my life here." - Lara #AXAUKCareers #KnowYouCan

Last week, AXA launched the Future Risks Report 2024 🌍. As we navigate an evolving and complex risk landscape, it's crucial to understand and prepare for the risks of tomorrow to help shape a better future for our customers and society. The 11th annual report identifies the biggest potential risks to the UK and globally, based on input from the public and risk experts. This year, 77% of experts and 55% of the general public in the UK believe that risks are becoming increasingly interconnected. Geopolitical tensions caused by the situation in the Middle East and the war between Russia and Ukraine have led to a rise in concern about the likelihood of future conflict and the potential ripple effect across security, financial and energy markets and cyber infrastructure. #ClimateChange has once again claimed the number one spot as the top emerging risk for both UK experts and the public, highlighting the urgent need to address its impacts and build resilience. #AI and #Data continue to climb the rankings. Last week we marked #WorldMenopauseDay with a panel discussion raising awareness of the challenges of menopause and encouraging colleagues to speak openly about the associated impact and stigma that can be attached to it. With panellists Sharon Vibert, Director, Henpicked at Menopause in the Workplace; Dr Pallavi Bradshaw, our Deputy Chief Medical Officer at AXA Health; and Suzanne Scott, our Chief People Officer, the session provided opportunity to gain deeper understanding of the impact of menopause and the supportive measures in place across AXA UK. As one of the first companies to be accredited as a Menopause-Friendly Employer in the UK, it’s important to us that we continue to raise awareness and provide the resources to support the health and wellbeing of our people. Thank you to everyone who made it an invaluable discussion. https://lnkd.in/enJP2-SB #HealthyYou #ProtectFutureYou #KnowYouCan

A huge thank you to the volunteers (and their canine companions) from Hearing Dogs For Deaf People who visited our offices in Bolton, Glasgow and Teesside 🐾 Our colleagues came along to meet the volunteers, learn about the work of a hearing dog, and volunteer a bit of their time to make dog toys that will help train the pups to support a deaf person 🐕🦺 A hearing dog alerts its owner to important sounds, like alarms, phones, babies crying, or people trying to get their attention. But they also provide valuable companionship and emotional support to help their owners feel less isolated. At AXA UK, our colleagues get 21 hours of volunteering leave every year, but this doesn't have to be a whole day out. Micro-volunteering events like these are a great way to have fun, learn new things and make a difference. #AXAUKCareers #KnowYouCan #IWDP

🌟 Did you know the typical small business owner juggles at least five different roles? 🌟 From accountancy to IT support, running a small business demands a lot – and according to our latest research, over a third (34%) of SME owners have tackled social media promotion, while 21% have taken a crash course in legal matters. It’s no surprise then that SME owners estimate they work three days' worth of overtime each week, outside of their ‘normal’ hours, to keep their businesses running smoothly. Yet, despite their incredible efforts, 29% admit they’ve made significant mistakes due to lack of expertise in key areas. At AXA UK, we understand how challenging it can be to balance all the demands of your business. That’s why we’re committed to supporting SME owners every step of the way. Our CEO, Tara Foley shares: “We understand the challenges small business owners face and by making sure they only pay for what they need when it comes to insurance, plus providing a range of business tools and a 24/7 health support line, we are helping them to thrive.” What’s been the most unexpected role you’ve had to take on as a business owner? Let us know in the comments. #KnowYouCan #SME #Entrepreneurship #BusinessOwners #SMEUK #SmallBuisnessUK #SmallBuisnessOwnerUK
