Earlier this year, Leicester City Council was targeted by a cyber-attack carried out by INC Ransom, compromising sensitive data. Initially, it was believed that only 25 documents were exposed, but it has now been revealed that over 1.3 terabytes of sensitive information, potentially affecting up to 400,000 residents, were accessed by the attackers. Despite the council's financial resources, concerns remain about whether affected individuals will receive adequate compensation. In March, Leicester City Council was hit by a cyber-attack by INC Ransom, ransomware group known for targeting educational and health organisations around the world. It is confirmed that hackers accessed at least 1.3 terabytes worth of sensitive data. This includes documents such as rent statements, housing purchasing applications and passport details. The council are reviewing the released data, and will contact directly those affected that they consider to be high risk. At the start of the year, the FCA announced their investigation into whether motor finance customers had been overcharged on their agreements due to discretionary commission arrangements (DCAs). When announcing they were looking into motor finance agreements, the FCA also paused the eight-week limit within which motor finance firms were required to respond to complaints. The expected resolution was originally set for September 26, 2024. Now the FCA has released a further update extending the deadline for motor finance firms to respond to complaints and the outcome of the investigation.
