✨ Celebrating Art, Community, and Steel We’re proud to highlight the stunning work of our Barrett Steel Scotland customer, Svetlana Kondakova, in partnership with Big Red Blacksmiths and the Edinburgh Sculpture Workshop. This breathtaking 3.6 x 2.9m sculpture, now located at Almondell Cemetery, East Calder, is a beautiful fusion of galvanised steel, cast aluminium, colour-anodised aluminium, and post-consumer glass. Commissioned by the East Calder Community Resources Association in collaboration with Stirling Developments and West Lothian Council, this piece, titled "The River," is more than art—it’s a community-driven celebration of life’s cycles in nature. Developed in consultation with local residents, bereavement groups, and wildlife advisors, the design embodies peace, calm, and a space for reflection. Every detail connects with the local community. The water-inspired patterns were designed by pupils from East Calder, Calderwood, and St. Paul’s Primary Schools, with the Boys’ Brigade creating the flowing mosaic shapes. The sculpture features local wildlife—oak and hazel leaves, bluebells, butterflies, a life-sized otter, brown trout, and even a kingfisher perched at the top. On this Remembrance Day, we pause to honour the courage, resilience, and ultimate sacrifices made by the countless men, women and animals who served side by side in times of war. Their bravery and dedication to our freedom are woven into our history, and today, we give thanks for their service and unwavering commitment. This year, Barrett Steel is incredibly humbled to have contributed to memorials that keep their legacy alive. Our support of the laser-cut memorial soldiers and ongoing "On Freedom's Wings" project (a monument honouring those who courageously took to the skies in defence of our future) are reminders of the profound sacrifices made by so many. As we remember the past, we carry forward their memory with gratitude and respect. 🦁 Proud of Our Lions! Despite a heartbreaking exit from the Emirates FA Cup last weekend, our sponsored team, Guiseley AFC, made us incredibly proud with their courageous display against League One opponents Stevenage. Over 120 minutes of intense football, the Lions showed true heart and resilience, matching their higher-ranked adversaries blow for blow. A controversial disallowed goal in the opening minutes, followed by relentless attacks, near-misses, and a hard-earned equalizer, kept fans on the edge of their seats. The Lions fought to the very end, pushing the game into a nail-biting penalty shootout where, unfortunately, luck wasn’t on our side, ending 5-4 in sudden death. Guiseley manager Mark Bower captured the spirit perfectly: “I’m gutted we’re out, but I’m so, so proud of the club today.” A standing ovation from the traveling fans was a well-deserved tribute to this incredible team effort. A special shoutout to all 329 loyal Guiseley fans who made the journey to cheer on the Lions – you brought the energy and pride that makes the FA Cup so special. 🥼 A very different start to the day for our Barrett Steel team on Tuesday! Across the UK and Ireland our team, customers, and suppliers have come together to raise nearly £30,000 for Cancer Research UK this year. As part of our efforts, we had the honor of visiting the Leeds Cancer Research Centre and seeing firsthand the groundbreaking work of the Pathology team. From innovative screening techniques to cutting-edge research on how gut biomes may impact bowel cancer diagnosis, it was inspiring to witness the passion driving a better future in cancer care.
