We were delighted to host a visit from the Rail Accident Investigation Branch (RAIB) to our #Scunthorpe site this week. They enjoyed a tour of the site including seeing blooms being made in the Concast plant, a rather soggy view over our Ore Blending Beds, a tour of the SRSM mill and also the chance to see the finishing of some Zinoco® coated rails. This was a great opportunity for them to learn more about the production of rails and how we work to provide the highest quality rails possible to our customers. #BuildingStrongerRailways

This week we have been in our Continuous Casting plant at our #Scunthorpe site to see bloom being produced on Caster 4. Here we can see the blooms at the end of the process, they are now a solid product and are being cut to length by the torch cutters. This particular bloom will head up to our #Skinningrove site to be rolled by the Special Profiles mill. #BuildingStrongerFutures

A huge well done to our #Scunthorpe Rod Mill colleague Byron Lawson for successfully completing a Lean Six Sigma business improvement qualification. Byron (left) has learned and applied a range of key Lean Six Sigma tools, and will use his new skillset as he works towards his Green Belt Accreditation. He received his certificate from Daniel Bark, Continuous Improvement Specialist at our rod mill. Dan (right) said: “Congratulations to Byron on a wonderful achievement. Using the tools in ongoing projects will be a major help to both himself, and the business.” #PassionPridePerformance

It’s always fantastic to visit our customers, so we were delighted to stage a technical awareness course for nearly 40 employees of GT Wire in Sweden. The presentation was delivered by our wire rod colleagues Conrad Dunn and Johan Magelsen, and was well received by our customer and its owner. We had a really productive time at InnoTrans last week and it was great to meet up with so many new and existing customers over our 4 days in Berlin. One of the products we showcased to visitors is our Zinoco® coated rail which provides corrosion protection to rails in harsh corrosive conditions. This product can have a great impact on extending the life of rail in areas where frequent rail replacements have historically been required meaning more rail life and less track maintenance. Take a look at our video to learn more about this innovative product which is manufactured at our Scunthorpe site. #BuildingStrongerRailways

It’s our fourth and final day at InnoTrans and we’d like to thank everyone who’s come to visit us at Messe Berlin. We are the UK’s only rail manufacturer and one of the products we’ve been showcasing to visitors is our Zinoco® coated rail. We have a long history of providing solutions to customer issues and our Zinoco®, which provides corrosion protection to rails in harsh corrosive conditions, is a fantastic example. It is manufactured at our Scunthorpe HQ, and in this video we take you behind the scenes at our rail operations to show the shot blasted rail going into the coating booth to have the Zinoco® coating applied. It’s day 3 at InnoTrans and we’re looking forward to meeting up with more existing and potential customers. But if you can’t make it to stand 240 in Hall 21, do not worry as we’re taking you behind the scenes at our Scunthorpe Rail and Section Mill. SRSM - as it’s widely known - is where our skilled colleagues manufacture the high-quality rails synonymous with the British Steel name. We are the UK’s only manufacturer of rail and in this video you can see inside our second reversing mill (the intermediate mill). Our steel passes through here 3 times and you can watch it being carefully turned at the end of each pass to allow it to be rolled on both planes. From here the bloom will pass to the finishing mill from where the rail rolling will be completed - and the rail progresses on to the cooling bank. This is how we’re #BuildingStrongerRailways

Our Occupational Health team took part in Macmillan Cancer Support's big coffee morning. Many of our colleagues across our site turned up to buy cakes and raffle tickets to help raise money for Macmillan. The team raised a wonderful £150 and would like to thank all those who attended and donated! #BuildingStrongerFutures
