What does the #BeeWell data tell us about school belonging? Sharing new evidence! Using 2023 survey data from approximately 40,000 young people across 253 schools in Greater Manchester and Hampshire, Isle of Wight, Portsmouth and Southampton, our new briefing asks: 💡To what extent is young people’s sense of school belonging attributable to differences between schools? 💡Are there inequalities in school belonging across socio-demographic groups (e.g. free school meal eligibility, special educational needs)? 💡What school-related factors (e.g. relationships with staff, happiness with attainment) are associated with school belonging? The results point to the following recommendations: 👉 Prioritise the promotion of school belonging 👉 Address inequalities in school belonging, particularly for young people with SEN 👉 Target the school-related factors that make a difference to school belonging, particularly relationships with staff, happiness with attainment, and bullying Read the full #BeeWell briefing here: https://lnkd.in/d-22Fk9b

Youth-centred wellbeing programme in Greater Manchester, Hampshire, IoW, Portsmouth & Southampton.
About us
#BeeWell is a youth-centred programme dedicated to improving the wellbeing of young people across England. #BeeWell listens to the voices of young people through an annual wellbeing survey delivered in secondary schools and builds a coalition of partners to act on the results. The programme is a collaboration between The University of Manchester, The Gregson Family Foundation and Anna Freud, who, together with the Greater Manchester Combined Authority (GMCA), launched the programme in 2019. The programme’s success in Greater Manchester has led to #BeeWell’s expansion into Hampshire, Isle of Wight, Portsmouth and Southampton in 2023 where the programme is directly supported by the region’s four local authorities and Integrated Care System. #BeeWell is committed to making young people’s wellbeing everybody’s business!

During Children’s Mental Health Week, we’re shining a light on the positive impact the #BeeWell programme is having on young people across Hampshire, the Isle of Wight, Portsmouth and Southampton. #BeeWell is a national youth-centred wellbeing initiative that seeks the views of young people to shape and improve the wellbeing services available to them. Over 40,000 young people in our region have taken part in an annual #BeeWell survey and shared their thoughts on a range of topics including emotions, relationships and aspirations. Thanks to their valuable input, young people, schools and partners have been busy acting on what they said, developing a variety of initiatives to improve wellbeing and raise awareness. HIPS #BeeWell Headline Findings week: celebrating action and putting the power of the data back in young people’s hands! Saturday saw our first podcast recording at the Spark Community Space space for our exciting project led by The Council of Social Responsibility (CSR) A group of young people have codesigned six wellbeing podcasts that they have aptly called ‘The Wellbeing Club’. Each episode explores a topic chosen by them, the first episode looks at diagnosis, from the wish to be assessed and explaining the process for that, through to top tips for those waiting to be, or who have been, diagnosed with a mental health condition. The #BeeWell data is thread through the series, prompting discussions on topics such as social media, loneliness, anxiety and bullying. Keep an eye out for details on the release of The Wellbeing Club! We are also pleased to now be able to share findings from the Autumn 2024 #BeeWell survey and we are thrilled to continue working with our broad range of partners and young people to act for young people’s wellbeing! #BeeWell Headline Findings week: working together to listen, act and celebrate young people’s wellbeing in #Hampshire #IsleofWight #Portsmouth #Southampton We are pleased to now be able to share findings from the Autumn 2024 #BeeWell survey and work with partners to act on the results! For inspo – let’s take a look at how some of our partners have been acting for young people’s wellbeing already, and helping young people take the lead! We were excited to team up with Girlguiding, who have been delivering a pilot project for girls at The Clere School in North Hampshire and Oasis Mayfield in Southampton. Each project is working with 20 year 9 girls around their self-esteem, where participants are co-creating enrichment activities for their peers. To kick start some ideas, the group looked at the #Beewell data for their school and how mental health effects the body. We look forward to continuing working with Girlguiding to interpret and act on year two of the findings! Read the latest headline findings from the Autumn 2024 #BeeWell survey! A huge thank you to Sarah Smith MP for raising the importance of measuring young people's wellbeing nationally in the House of Commons! The MP for Hyndburn said that charting national wellbeing "could help embed this key data into policy making and commissioning going forwards, both locally and nationally." And that it could help "to ensure that schools can drive further improvements for young people and help reverse the low levels of life satisfaction that sadly far too many of our children are experiencing and report." Watch the MP for Hyndburn advocating for wellbeing measurement during yesterday's debate 👇 As the Children's Wellbeing and Schools Bill continues to progress, we are asking MPs and Peers to back the call for a young people's wellbeing measurement programme for England. A big thank you to Munira Wilson MP for continuing to champion children and young people's wellbeing measurement in the House of Commons! The MP for Twickenham said: "One in four children in the UK reports low wellbeing, and according to the programme for international student assessment data, our country is the lowest ranked in Europe" "Data on children’s wellbeing and mental health is fragmented across the NHS, schools and local authorities. It is crucial that we collect data to understand the challenges that young people face and to develop solutions, and that we seek to understand the efficacy of those solutions through the use of robust wellbeing data."
