Dairy production is currently hugely unsustainable and also highly inefficient. At Better Dairy we are using precision fermentation to produce the same cheeses, yoghurts, ice creams that customers currently enjoy without having to use animals.

    What an inspiring evening! 🎉 Better Dairy was thrilled to join industry leaders and EU officials at a special networking reception hosted by Food Fermentation Europe focused on driving collaboration in biotech, modern fermentation, and agriculture. Together, we explored the future of sustainable food systems in the EU, with a spotlight on the upcoming European Biotech Act and its potential to champion innovations like fermentation. Thanks to all who made it a night to remember! 🌍💪

    What a fantastic night we had! 🎉 Just ahead of the new EU mandate, we hosted a networking reception to discuss the path forward for modern fermentation, biotech, agriculture, and EU competitiveness. We heard from Giulia Del Brenna (DG GROW), Pierre Pelissier (DG RTD), and Robert van den Breemer (Those Vegan Cowboys ) — with an audience full of energy and ideas. A big thanks to Christian Poppe (Formo) and Sebastien Louvion (Standing Ovation) for moderating the conversation, and Jevan Nagarajah (Better Dairy) for his welcome words. The key word of the night? Collaboration! It’s time to strengthen our efforts to ensure the new mandate supports breakthrough innovations like #fermentation to power sustainable food systems in the EU. 🌍💪 The upcoming European Biotech Act will be essential to these efforts and must prioritise biotechnology in food production, recognising solutions like fermentation as strategic for building a resilient and sustainable food system. Thank you to everyone who joined and made the evening a success!

    We had a fantastic time repping novel food technologies on a panel at The Times Earth Summit last week! Our Director of Strategy & Partnerships Trishala Bopanna joined fellow industry thought leaders Henry Dimbleby, Marija Rompani and Jack Watts to talk about the changes necessary in the food industry to tackle carbon emissions. 🌍💬 We said it there and we will say it again- our world's food system is unsustainable and senseless. The UK has the opportunity to rethink how it allocates its spending and where to invest to tackle food insecurity that increasingly extreme and unpredictable weather brings. ⚡ ✨ Novel food technologies like precision fermentation can provide a steady food supply while reducing water use by over 60% and land use and green house gas emissions by over 90% compared to traditional dairy production. 🙌🐄 43% of the UK's electricity now comes from renewable sources, following £300bn of public and private investment since 2010.     🌍 Last week, we had the privilege of representing the precision fermentation industry in a closed-door session with the UK's Climate Change Committee (CCC). The CCC, as the government’s independent advisor on climate issues, is in the process of preparing its advice for the Seventh Carbon Budget (2038-2042), including updated strategies for the UK’s pathway to Net Zero. Our discussions focused on the role of diet change and how alternative proteins can help reduce meat and dairy consumption, contributing to a more sustainable future. The session, held at the John Innes Centre in Norwich, highlighted both the challenges and opportunities for alternative proteins in supporting climate goals. It was inspiring to be part of such a forward-looking conversation with other change-making companies, aiming to reshape our food systems for the better. 🌱🚀 #NetZero #ClimateAction #AlternativeProteins #PrecisionFermentation #BetterDairy

    Last Friday we hung up our lab coats to bond as a team on our Annual Away Day! Aside from our regular drinks and socials in and around our Hackney Wick HQ, we really value the opportunity to pause for the day, let our hair down and unwind with great food & drink, music, and activities in the great outdoors.  This year, Elsewhere-Offsites hosted us in Old Amersham where we spent the day pancake making, air rifling, vehicle manoeuvring, golfing, shooting arrows, cheese and wine tasting, having fire-side chats, dancing and the list goes on… We cannot wait for the next one!
