Earlier this month I attended BlockStart Scotland, the first-ever web3 conference in Scotland. Despite Glasgow having a large tech start-up ecosystem, I had not seen a noticeable web3 community during my 4 years of academic time in Glasgow. So when I heard about this event, I was so excited to finally see an ecosystem getting built. Huge thanks and congratulations to Colin Smith for building this event in Scotland, and for overcoming the challenges that come when doing something for the first time. Even though it seems like a lot of events are struggling this year probably because there are way too many events happening, BlockStart definitely set a great first step to grow even bigger in the future!

Martin, Daniel, and Chris, had the pleasure of attending the first ever BlockStart Scotland conference in Glasgow at the beginning of this month and have pulled together a few of their highlights to share: - The once sceptical landscape around blockchain, is changing across Scotland, and adoption is being driven within Financial Services, Energy, Health and Manufacturing. - Leveraging blockchain technology to navigate complex regulatory landscapes, particularly with the EU AI Act coming into play, can enable organisations to ensure compliance, and drive security for sensitive data. Just over 10 days ago, I highlighted SocialFi’s potential at Blockstart. Since, Coinbase has launched their own campaign. Coinbase’s Base has developed a gamified platform designed to drive user growth. It includes features like a daily spin wheel to incentivize referrals and encourage users to return regularly. This approach also creates a points-based hierarchy among users (hint: airdrop potential!). I recently spoke about strategies like this at the BlockStart Scotland conference. I had an incredible experience at BlockStart Scotland, Scotland's inaugural #web3 event! The connections made over 2.5 days surpassed a full week's worth, fostering a learning environment where everyone listened and shared knowledge. Scotland's beauty stole my heart from Glasgow to Inverness to Edinburgh, with promising growth, especially in Glasgow. Kudos to Colin Smith for flawlessly organizing this event. I'm already looking forward to Blockstart 2.0! A special shoutout to my panelists, Ethan Pierse, Constantin Kogan, Kieran Parker-Moroney, and Mark Ferraro—let's recreate the magic at the next conference!
