We deliver high-quality healthcare, medical education and research from hospital sites across Bradford.
About us
Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is responsible for providing hospital services for the people of Bradford and communities across Yorkshire. We serve a core population of around 500,000 people and provide specialist services for some 1.1 million. Our 5,500 staff work over several sites, including Bradford Royal Infirmary, which provides the majority of inpatient services, and St Luke’s Hospital, which predominantly provides outpatient and rehabilitation services. We also manage local community hospitals at Westwood Park, Westbourne Green, Shipley and Eccleshill. In early 2017, a new £28 million wing opened at Bradford Royal Infirmary, part of a £75m investment to improve patient care across our hospitals over a five-year period. It provides world-class facilities for elderly care, children’s services, a state-of-the-art intensive care unit with increased single-room provision and a retail concourse.

Mel’s weekly round-up: Our People This week we’re reflecting on the important topic of baby loss, as it’s Baby Loss Awareness Week - a time for everyone in the baby loss community and beyond to come together, to remember much-loved and missed babies, and raise awareness of pregnancy and baby loss. We hear from Bereavement Support Midwife, Julie Key, who is celebrating her 60th birthday by taking part in a skydive to raise money for the Stillbirth and Neonatal Death Society, which has helped many of the families she has worked with during her career. We also hear from Amy Ramsay, one of the parents Julie has helped, who tells us her family’s moving story. Mel’s weekly round-up: Our Place October marks #BlackHistoryMonth and so this week we’re celebrating the incredible work of the Trust’s #Diverse Working Forum. The forum was created to support the need for a more diverse representation in senior leadership roles within Maternity and Nursing. The group meets monthly to hear from guest speakers in senior leadership positions, as well as offering guidance, peer support and inspiration to the members as they navigate their own leadership journeys. Today, we'll hear from members of the group, who tell us about their work to foster a more inclusive and supportive environment for our #ethnicallydiverse colleagues. 👉 https://lnkd.in/eKDmuWEf . . . #AfricanAmericanHistory #CelebrateBlackExcellence #BlackHistoryMatters #BlackCulture

Mel’s weekly round-up – September’s round-up Here’s a chance to catch up on Mel’s weekly round-ups from September, plus some of the other things that have been happening at the Trust. We began September by showcasing several exciting building developments, including St Luke's Hospital Day Case Unit, a new entrance for the Bradford Institute of Health Research, and improvements to our Women and Newborn Unit. We also heard from our Dietitians Team, which is doing fantastic work supporting patients with coeliac disease and other food hypersensitivities through our Dietitian-led coeliac service. Finally, on this month's podcast, Cat Shutt and Carly Wilson explain the Trust's commitment to continuously improving our colleagues' experience at work and colleague recognition.

Mel’s weekly round-up: Our People This week we hear about how we’re pioneering and leading the way with a new approach to treating coeliac disease at our Trust. In recent years, more people with coeliac disease are seeking diagnosis and care, and to meet this demand we have introduced a ground-breaking dietitian-led coeliac service that’s improved patient care, making it more efficient and centred on the needs of each patient. We hear from Cristian Costas, Specialist Gastroenterology Dietitian and Jessica Wilde, Catering and Nutrition Improvement Dietitian, about this new innovative approach. As we come to the end of another busy month here at the Trust, we bring you another round-up of stories from throughout August. We kicked off the month with a look at our #apprenticeship programme. We heard from Faye Alexander, Head of Education, and Humaid Ahmed, Education Administrator, about the benefits of apprenticeships and their role in supporting career development. We also learned more about our collaboration with Macmillan Cancer Support this month. We heard how this partnership not only supports the training of our new Macmillan cancer nurses at our own Trust, but also plays a crucial role in providing comprehensive aftercare for patients once they've left hospital. Ahead of #OrganDonationWeek in September, we revisited the story of brothers Shakoor Ahmed and Mahroof Farooq. Shakoor shared how he made a live donor kidney donation to his brother and we also heard from Razdy Igasan, our Specialist Nurse for Organ Donation who told us about the need for more donors after death, particularly from the black and minority ethnic community. Finally, for the podcast this month, I enjoyed talking to Jennifer Syson, Research Matron and Senior Research Midwife, and Pepper Woods Senior Respiratory Research Sister, who told me about their fantastic roles in encouraging and engendering a culture of research activity here at the Trust.
