Mental health awareness isn't just about one day of the year on the 10th October, it should be something we focus on every day. Bramwith's trained mental health officer Paras, has shared below some of her insights about why employers should be factoring in the importance of caring for employee's mental health as a standard. In today’s modern workplace, many of us face constant pressures, tight deadlines, and overwhelming workloads. These stressors can lead to burnout, decreased motivation, and diminished performance. When we ignore mental health, we risk not only our well-being but also our effectiveness as employees and team members. Research shows that companies prioritizing mental health see significant returns on their investment. For instance, studies have indicated that workplaces with strong mental health support experience lower absenteeism and turnover rates. Employees who feel supported are more engaged, leading to higher-quality work and innovation. A positive mental health environment fosters creativity. When employees feel safe and valued, they are more likely to share ideas and collaborate, driving the organisation forward. In contrast, when mental health is neglected, fear and anxiety can stifle creativity and inhibit problem-solving. There’s sometimes a misconception that focusing on mental health detracts from productivity. In reality, supporting mental well-being can enhance focus and efficiency. Simple practices like regular breaks, open communication, and access to mental health resources empower employees to manage stress and maintain their energy levels. Prioritising mental health is not a luxury or nice to have; it is a necessity for a thriving workplace. By recognising its importance, we cultivate an environment where everyone can flourish. #worldmentalhealthawarenessday
