A fabulous project to be a part of! Working in Construction is definitely not for the faint hearted. The last few years have been particularly challenging for the industry, with curve balls thrown from all sides. However, getting to be a part of projects that will actually make a difference to the communities in which they are situated makes it worthwhile. Thanks to Rohin Dhand and the wider team for letting us be a part of this project. Well done all!
For the people of Harehills, Burmantofts & Richmond Hill. Eight years ago, we set out to bring better healthcare to two of Leeds’ most deprived areas. The trail we’ve blazed found a path through the red tape, breaking down barriers and moving obstacles to show us all what’s possible. Forty-two years ago, my dad opened his first pharmacy in Chapeltown. From that humble beginning we’ve invested over £8m in healthcare infrastructure in 2 of Leeds most deprived areas starting with St Martin’s House, Chapeltown and now with Harehills Community Health Centre (HC2). Areas we were brought up around and spent a lot of our childhood in. It hasn’t been easy—it’s broken a lot of people along the way, myself included. 😂 But to everyone who’s been a part of this journey, this is as much your achievement as it is mine. If there’s any legacy to leave behind in Leeds or beyond, this is it. There have been highs and lows, and I want to shout out my Dad, Rajeev Dhand Stephen Johnson and Edward Wick who have always been the last men standing when I’ve needed them most. I could tell you all about the lows, but I’ll leave you with these words from Teddy Roosevelt that say it better than I ever could: “The man who spends himself in a worthy cause knows in the end the triumph of high achievement; and who at worst, if he fails, at least fails while daring greatly, so that his place shall never be with those cold and timid souls who neither know victory nor defeat.” A huge thank you to the following: The Lord Mayor Abigail Marshall Katung Cllr Asghar Khan Cllr Nkele Manaka for their support and officially opening the building.
