👏 Celebrating 10 years of Derby Arena 👏 This week, a decade ago, Derby Arena became a key part of the city’s sporting and entertainment landscape and one of the first Olympic legacy projects completed after the 2012 Olympic Games held in London. Bowmer + Kirkland were selected as the main contractor to handle the project and we began construction in March 2013. The dome soon began to dominate the Derby skyline. Prominently situated next to Derby County Football Club's Pride Park Stadium, the building soon became a talking point in the city and beyond; excited cyclists took to social media to share images of the building taking shape. The project was handed over to our client, Derby City Council within budget and TWO MONTHS early! Here's some of the key features: ➡️ The futuristic 14,500m2 (156,000 sq ft) arena housed the fifth national standard 250m indoor cycling track in the country - there's now six in UK. ➡️ 5,000-capacity events venue. ➡️ The track infield – which is the size of 12 badminton courts – enables sports including badminton, basketball, netball, wheelchair basketball, volleyball, martial arts, table tennis and trampolining to be played at the same time as the track is in use. ➡️ The design included a 150-station gym, as well as group exercise studios, a cafe/bar and hospitality. We were delighted to have worked collaboratively with two B+K group businesses Keyclad Limited and Derry Building Services plus Mace, FaulknerBrowns and Arup. 📷 Take a step back in time and see how the project progressed ⬇️ #Derby #Derbyshire #construction #sportsinfrastructure #arena #webuild #derbyarena

The property is situated at the gateway to Piccadilly, alongside Vimto Park, offering students a range of exceptional amenities. The development has a core focus on sustainability, aiming for a BREEAM Excellent rating. Matt Merrick, CEO and Matt Loughlin, Chief Development Officer of iQ, joined the Bowmer + Kirkland team and the scheme's architect, Sheppard Robson to celebrate the progress and collaborative spirit of this project. Regional Director for B+K Paul Sykes and Senior Contracts Manager, Mark Lambkin presented the iQ executive team each with engraved commemorative trowels to mark the occasion. Inspiring Future Architects: SGP and Bowmer + Kirkland Welcome Students to Tritax Big Box’s Newark Site. Stephen George + Partners (SGP), in collaboration with Bowmer and Kirkland Ltd, were pleased to welcome students from Nottingham Trent University, University of Nottingham and Loughborough University to Tritax Big Box’s site in Newark as part of the RIBA Future Architects mentoring scheme. Construction began last year on new Class B8 distribution facilities to the east of Newlink Business Park, Newark, one of the largest logistics developments in the district. Tritax Big Box and SIMONS DEVELOPMENTS LIMITED are delivering 36,909 sqm of floorspace (GIA) for storage and distribution, including ancillary offices. In addition, this scheme will provide vital employment space in a key location, offering a sustainable and flexible solution that appeals to occupiers. It is a fantastic project to showcase to students participating in this year’s RIBA Future Architects Mentoring scheme as it enables them to gain valuable insights of a live construction site. Says Robert Bannerman, Architectural Technologist at SGP: The students were engaging, and it was pleasure to show them around the site. #SGPArchitects #RIBAStudentMentoring #RIBA
