We're delighted that the Shade the UK: Shading for a Resilient Future exhibition is now underway at the Building Centre in London. 🌍 At last week's launch event, the BBSA and members of the construction sector came together to discuss the impact of rising temperatures and climate change. As the clocks spring forward this Sunday, daylight hours are increasing - marking the start of British Summer Time! ⏰🌞 As both sunrise and sunset times increase, shading helps control light allowing daylight levels to be maintained within comfortable limits, avoiding discomfort from glare and reflections. This year marked the third Global Shading Day since its launch in 2023. Although the event is over for another year, Global Shading Day is more than just a one-day occasion. As we head into summer, the importance of shading has never been more relevant. As summers get warmer in the UK, shading helps us stay cool, especially when sleeping at night.🌡️ Some homes are more prone to overheating than others, such as high-rise flats and homes with limited ventilation. By the mid 2030s, 90% of UK housing could be susceptible to overheating. To avoid heat gain, keep blinds and shutters closed when it's hot during the daytime.
