Broxtowe Borough Council has awarded a £9,500 grant for a project to remember Stapleford’s World War II fallen. Stapleford Town Council is coordinating the History of the Fallen project to commemorate the 65 people from the town who fell in WWII and are recorded on the town’s war memorial. The project has researched each of the names, trying to find photographs and more details. So far, 42 banners have been produced, each with the image and name of one of those who fell. The banners are on display from Monday 28 October until Friday 22 November, as part of the commemorations of Remembrance Sunday and Armistice Day. Two banners will be displayed at Walter Parker VC Memorial Square as part of the Stapleford Town Council Remembrance event, complemented by 20 banners at the Library on Church Street and 20 banners at the Carnegie Civic and Community Centre on Warren Avenue. A greener, safer, healthier Borough, where everyone prospers.
About us
Broxtowe District Council was formed on 1 April, 1974, following the amalgamation of the former Beeston and Stapleford Urban District council, part of the Basford Rural District Council and Eastwood Urban District Council. In 1977 the Council was granted Borough status and the first Mayor was elected. The Borough is divided into 21 wards and represented by 44 Councillors with two-tier local authority services provided by the Borough Council and Nottinghamshire County Council. The Borough lies to the west of the City of Nottingham and is bounded by the River Trent on the south and the River Erewash on the west. There are four main towns in Broxtowe - Beeston, Stapleford, Kimberley and Eastwood each with its own character and individuality. There is a wide choice of employment, housing amenities and countryside which makes Broxtowe a very pleasant place to live and work. Nearly two thirds of the land in Broxtowe is open countryside with a number of areas noted for their particular charm, and preserved as conservation areas. The most notable son of Broxtowe is D.H. Lawrence, born in Eastwood, whose writings reflect many places in the area.

Broxtowe Borough Council has awarded a grant of £10,000 to Eastwood Tennis Club to resurface their practice court and offer new Walking Tennis sessions. The club match funded the grant with in-kind volunteer time and money from club funds. The grant was made possible through the UK Shared Prosperity Funding from the UK Government. £9,000 of the grant is being used to re-surface and re-mark the court, making it playable again. The practice court had become dilapidated and overgrown. Members put a lot of time and effort into clearing debris and plant growth. £1,000 of the grant is being used to deliver coached Walking Tennis sessions, that will run from Monday 4 November 2024 with an initial six-week programme.
