Brunelcare is supporting Living Wage week, which runs from 4-10 November. Brunelcare has been a Real Living Wage (RLW) employer since April 2022 and during that time our employee turnover has reduced from 35% to under 20%. Did you know that Bristol has been a Living Wage (LW) City for almost 5 years, it now has 270+ LW accredited employers based in Bristol and has resulted in almost 6000 Bristol employees getting a pay rise. Fair pay is essential if we want a fairer city! Brunelcare is proud to have been a member of the BLWC action group (Bristol Living Wage City Action Group) since 2022, which works on projects and initiatives to encourage other employers to sign-up to the RLW. Brian Whittaker, People and OD Director said: "I am proud to work for an organisation whose leadership team and Trustees supported our commitment to the Real Living Wage. Since adopting the RLW in April 2022, our employee retention has increased to around 86% and is still improving each month. We have also just received our 2024 Colleague Survey results and we are thrilled to have achieved 84% in our Employee Engagement Index, a significant improvement on our 2022 score. What our experience has shown is that adopting the RLW is not a cost, it is an investment that pays back in many different and positive ways."

On Friday we held a celebration event for our new FITS (Focused Intervention Training & Support) cohort where they presented their learnings from the course and received their certificates. 🙌 FITS Into Practice is an evidence-based training and support programme developed by the Association for Dementia Studies at Worcester University, which helps deliver the best possible, personalised outcomes for people living with dementia, significantly improving quality of life, opportunities and engagement. 💙 We now have 50 Dementia Coaches across Brunelcare. Stuart Wright, Brunelcare's Dementia Care Lead said: "This is the 3rd cohort I have delivered FITS to, and I am incredibly proud of all of those who have taken part so far. It is a privilege to see the passion and skill of participants grow during and following their completion of the course. Last year's cohort will be presenting some of the work they undertook at this year's Dementia Congress. This year's cohort has exceeded expectations, with a number of projects being taken forward which will positively impact the wellbeing of all the residents in the care homes." This week Brunelcare has been celebrating Diwali, the Hindu Festival of light. It symbolises the spiritual "victory of light over darkness, good over evil, and knowledge over ignorance". The celebrations generally last five or six days and our services have been getting involved in the festival. Huge congratulations to Deerhurst Care Home! 🙌🙌 They have been awarded a national Gold Standards Framework (GSF) Quality Hallmark Award in recognition of the excellent end of life care the home provides. Deerhurst received the award at the GSF annual conference and awards ceremony on Friday 27th September at BMA House in London - a celebration of the UK's exceptional health and social care providers for care in the final year of life. Deerhurst Care Home is one of five Brunelcare care homes offering dementia and respite care, and has been awarded this accreditation for the third year in a row. Alongside this incredible achievement, Deerhurst Care Home is also rated as an Outstanding care home by the Care Quality Commission (CQC). Deerhurst was just one of 140 organisations from across the country receiving the award in London, with only 98 care homes nationwide taking home the accolade. 🌟 Last week, ABC Centre in Hengrove, one of our Extra Care Housing sites, hosted a fantastic Wellbeing Week to mark World Mental Health Day! The focus was 'Mental Health in the Workplace' so the Centre had something special planned for both Colleagues and Tenants! 🌍🧠 Tenants enjoyed a relaxing Pamper Afternoon, challenged their minds with a Brain Busters session, and connected over Tea and Talk. Meanwhile, our wonderful colleagues kicked off the week with a Staff Breakfast, got creative with Glass Art, and joined in on the fun with a Hello Yellow Fancy Dress Day! 💛✨ There was even a dance class for colleagues and a calming Mindfulness Afternoon for tenants.
