Congratulations to Poppy Gustafsson on her appointment as Investment Minister. We look forward to working closely with Poppy and the Government in bringing growth and investment to the UK. Welcoming the appointment, BVCA Chief Executive Michael Moore said "We need an Investment Minister who understands what it takes to lead and scale businesses that compete on the international stage. Poppy brings exactly that experience. Her impressive record of attracting private capital investment shows she knows what it will take to make the UK an even more appealing destination for international investment." At our Summit last month, we announced Poppy as the inaugural winner of the BVCA ‘Inspirational Women Award'. This award recognises her success in leading and twice-exiting high-growth private organisations. We are confident that she will bring her business expertise to this role and amplify the impact of women-led businesses.

"The UK has established itself as a globally leading VC market and has overtaken India as the third largest VC market in the world, now accounting for 6% of global investment. But there are potentially billions more in domestic investment that can truly catalyse high potential and high growth companies, and that is from UK institutional, including pension fund, capital." In this week's Insight article, Louis Taylor, CEO of the British Business Bank (BBB) writes about how a lack of access to patient capital prevents UK companies from expanding, and what the BBB is doing to help increase UK institutional #investment in high potential and high growth companies. Louis also discusses the BBB’s latest UK Venture Capital Financial Returns report, and Government plans to establish a National Wealth Fund, which the Bank is central to delivering.
