By the Bridge with Cambian is a therapeutic fostering organisation helping young people rebuild their lives

About us

By the Bridge with Cambian is a leading independent therapeutic fostering provider. We find and train the best Foster Parents so that young people in care get a better chance in life as a result of their Foster family's commitment and dedication. Our unique approach to fostering puts the foster parents at the centre of our team, supporting the development and progress of a child. Seeing a child in care discover their potential, giving them the best possible chance at happiness and achieving their personal best - it’s what makes fostering with us so rewarding. With over 13 years’ experience of helping children rebuild their lives, our high quality work is in high demand. Over 120 Local Authorities have children placed with us, and every month more children are referred to us than we can possibly look after, but we are always looking out for more families so that we can offer a good home to as many of them as we can.

  • Therapeutic fostering plays a crucial role in supporting the mental health and overall well-being of children who have experienced trauma, neglect, or other adverse conditions. Therapeutic fostering offers a safe and stable environment, which is essential for children who may have experienced instability in their previous living situations. This stability helps to build trust and a sense of security, which are foundational for mental health. Importance of Therapeutic Fostering for Child Mental Health Healing from Trauma: Many children in therapeutic foster care have experienced significant trauma, which can have lasting effects on their mental health. Therapeutic fostering provides a nurturing environment where children can process and heal from their traumatic experiences. Improved Emotional Regulation: Through therapeutic interventions and the supportive environment of a foster home, children can develop better emotional regulation skills. This helps them manage their emotions more effectively and reduces the incidence of behavioural issues. Building Trusting Relationships: Trust is often a major issue for children who have faced neglect or abuse. Therapeutic fostering helps children build trusting relationships with their foster parents, which can translate into healthier relationships in other areas of their lives. Enhanced Self-Esteem and Identity: Therapeutic fostering supports the development of a positive self-image and identity. Children receive affirmation and support that boosts their self-esteem and helps them develop a strong sense of self-worth. Long-term Positive Outcomes: Research shows that children who receive therapeutic fostering care are more likely to have positive long-term outcomes compared to those who do not receive such support. This includes better mental health, higher educational attainment, and improved social functioning.
