We are excited to unveil Kaleidosteeple, an imaginative public art installation created for St Michael’s Square outside London Square Croydon. Designed by Maetherea in collaboration with Croydon's community, this unique piece is inspired by the historic steeple’s architectural elegance and the intricate patterns of a kaleidoscope. It aims to capture the borough's vibrant urban life and offers a warm and inviting ambiance. This towering piece lays the foundation for the dynamic community hub of future ground-floor shops and eateries set to surround London Square Croydon in 2025. #LondonSquare #LiveAldar

First time I’ve won a competition I didn’t enter 😂 (they of course asked permission!). Great seeing one of my photos of Cody Dock in East London on their annual charity calendar. It’s well worth a visit if you’re that way (though it is nicer in the summer months). My photo is of their great rolling bridge, which is hand cranked to allow boats to pass underneath. Thanks to everyone who braved a wet and windy day at Stratford Cross this week to celebrate the arrival of the Royal Entomological Society Insect Garden to Endeavour Square. Designed by Tom Massey - Landscape & Garden Design and supported by Project Giving Back Lendlease and SHIFT, the garden first appeared at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show in 2023. Its move to Stratford Cross has been made possible thanks to a host of partners and collaborators including Cake Industries, Landscape Associates, Maylim Hortus Loci Ltd Mule Studio and Clipfine and has been enhanced by Aardman Lloyd of the Flies Bug Hunt which is free to enjoy across the site. The garden is fully open and accessible to all, and provides important habitats and food sources for insects of all kinds in its new home at Stratford Cross, which sits adjacent to the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in East London. The Featherstone Pavilion sits like a banyan tree on the terrace of the fifth floor Buro Happold London offices, as a place to meet and connect with others in the shade. Designed by Cake Engineering in collaboration with Justin Phillips of Buro Happold, the pavilion was fabricated and installed by Cake Industries. The tree-like form is an exercise in creating complex geometry from straight lines, referencing the curved shells of Candela and creating something that can be substantially reused at the end of its first life. Using straight, readily available douglas fir boards, the fins are set out on edge but inclined to gently touch a virtual toroidal form, creating a complex doubly curved soffit that evokes wings or spreading branches out from a central trunk. The pavilion roof is supported on a seating area and planter to provide a space to congregate. Lightweight structural forms ensure that the structural requirements of the existing building are respected, and the overall effect of a sculptural but functional space enlivens the exposed location. This elegant, lean construction is easy to construct and deconstruct, naturally weathers and requires minimal maintenance. Over time, climbing plants will provide partial natural shading in the summer, and the structure deliberately mirrors the design and symmetry of the internal timber staircase at the offices, also fabricated by Cake Industries. Throwback Thursday: The Hothouse at Stratford International Quarter ☀️ London Design Week has been underway, so we decided to revisit a project we galvanized that served as a landmark feature for London Design Week in 2020. The Hothouse was a structure fabricated by Cake Industries, designed to be a stunning showcase for the public to look at and experience. Additionally, The Hothouse was also designed to deliver a serious message about the world’s rapidly changing climate. Our climate has already increased by 1°C temperature since pre-industrialisation, which could have catastrophic consequences if it reaches 2°C. Hot dip galvanizing is imperative for steel-based projects because it provides a long-life, low-maintenance corrosion protection which safeguards steel from atmospheric attacks that cause rust.
