Last week, we held a Diwali celebration event! Diwali, the Festival of Lights, is celebrated by many all over the world - symbolising the spiritual ‘victory of light over darkness, good over evil, and knowledge over ignorance’. We hosted the event with music from Shem Jerrold from Music in Hospitals & Care. Our CUH Arts team also held a wonderful craft activity. This event was kindly supported by Addenbrooke's Charitable Trust (ACT). A very happy #Diwali to all those celebrating 💙 #CUHproud #Together #SafeKindExcellent

Taking part in a CUH research trial transformed 33-year-old Sian Harding's life. Sian experienced years of excruciatingly painful symptoms due to being born with hereditary angioedema (HAE), a life-threatening swelling disorder. After securing the last place on an international clinical trial, led by consultant in clinical immunology and allergy, Dr Padmalal Gurugama, Sian's swelling attacks have been effectively prevented and she is able to live a normal, happy life. Our CUHNHS staff were on BBC Breakfast this morning discussing our latest advancements in a new type of cancer treatment, known as CAR-T cell therapy. A new state-of-the-art laboratory is set to open in Cambridge that will deliver ‘home-grown’ CAR-T cells, to develop new cell therapies against different cancers and auto-immune diseases. The lab, being built by the University of Cambridge and run by Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (CUH), is a short walk from Addenbrooke's Hospital. It will help us deliver more treatments to more patients, in readiness for the new Cambridge Cancer Research Hospital, on track to be built by 2029.
