    Another week, another package of critical roles kicked off for a handful of the UK’s leading early-stage ventures in sustainability. I’m not saying the embedded model is a better choice than recruitment agencies, but we do seem to be winning a lot of work from them. 🙂 Besides the commercial and cultural differences: - We fiercely raise the bar for talent. - Close proximity to the team (implanted!) to support a stronger match. - We make the hires, and you keep the playbooks, infrastructure, and candidate database to self-serve next time! Our fractional embedded model is performing well for companies that have critical roles to hire for but do not have a need for a full-time internal TA partner or recruiter.

    Happy Monday everyone.... keep hiking the mountain, a lot can change in 6 months. Stick with it 👇 Building a service-based business is said to be one of the hardest jobs to do: High customer expectations, tight margins, super competitive, relying on knowledge workers, and a people-centric model. To rub it in, I work with tech founders chasing 70%+ margin business models with lean teams, less stress (probably not), and higher valuations. But i'm not a tech founder so it's irrelevant - ha Q1 this year, we were in a tricky spot: - Loss-making & the embedded recruitment category was on its knees. - We had one customer type & our market had fully contracted (UK VC/Scale-up market). - We had to restructure our team and navigate the emotion & cost to do so. Q3 just closed: - Embedded is picking back up as TA teams & start-ups want expertise & flexibility in their functions/companies. - We launched 2x new products, reducing reliance on Embedded only. - We are billing in 2x geographies. - We’re doing much more with less, leveraging technology. Results: 👉🏼 Most profitable quarter in 2.5 years 👉🏼 Nudging 20% profit margin 👉🏼 Low-risk profile - highest client 11% 👉🏼 75% of customers are retained/managed service 👉🏼 72 NPS score / 87% client retention 👉🏼 8.5 office vibe score 👉🏼 More than 3 months of operational costs in the bank What decisions were made? - Extreme ownership - everything is my fault. (not the market, not the govt, not A.i bla bla) - Drove a new commercial culture across the team (understanding growth, margins, EBITDA, etc.) - Redefined our product offering, service stack, and ICP (hyper-focused). - Made really tough people/team changes - Figured out how to generate similar revenue with a 40% smaller team using technology, innovation, global resources, and pricing models. - Made it easier to buy our services by applying a product mindset, obsessing over customer journey & experience, and creating a digital buying experience. No salesperson. 📢 A very warranted public shout-out to my team (past and present) on the front line, giving it all to deliver results, innovation, and competitive advantage to our customers. And to other mid-sized service businesses in my network that are in a tough spot—a lot can change in 3-6 months. Keep going 🦾 A long way to go to reach my vision and aspirations, but we’re much closer than we were 6 months ago thats for sure! P.S. Missed saying thank you to my long suffering wife, who also shares the swings of building a business through no choice of her own (sort of) x Right, now back to eating glass and staring into the abyss as Elon musk describes building a company/entrepreneurship 🤪

    Here’s a £750 video that has generated me £400k in pipeline & x30 ROI ⬇️ To my fellow founders looking for cost-effective marketing hacks, I tried a video for the first time… very happy; here’s the breakdown. TL;DR - I’ll definitely be doing it again. I’m not pretending to be Mr. Beast. It’s not super pretty. Definitely won’t win an award at Cannes Lions. But... It did help me hit my sales quota for this quarter. I learnt loads. Started the journey with video. Video cost - £750 (probably could be cheaper with AI) LinkedIn ads targeting founders/HOPs - £500 pcm Outreach campaigns - £120 pcm £400k in pipeline generated 📈 £60k closed 🤝 On to the next one! With a little more budget!

    Turn cold talent into hire ready in 14 days…how to DIY! As an embedded talent partner, we don’t have a 20-year-old candidate database (like a recruitment agency) to use. We have personal LinkedIn networks, but that’s different. Our model is to plug our sourcing tech stack into our customer’s ATS, allowing them to keep all of the candidate data generated throughout the project for future hiring activity. We build our customers' database! Which is the way it should be, as we go to market as them to attract these candidates. I used to believe that the agency database was the one thing that was a genuine USP, but the truth is, they are less relevant now. Discovering talent is not difficult; we all have access to the same information. It’s the systems and processes to creatively engage talent into your pipeline that is the USP. When competing in sales opportunities, I used to run into the common objections: - We’d never be able to compete with agencies from a standing start (challenge accepted!) - We don’t have access to specialist “passive talent” (challenge accepted!) So we focused on building a system that covered 90% of the addressable candidate market (specific to your ideal candidate profile) and surfaced to you only the strongest, qualified, interested, and available candidates of that pool, all with complete transparency. Agencies are horrendously bad at leveraging their own databases and tend to only engage with the 5% active candidates they can make money from, leaving the other 95% redundant. To some this is sophisticated, to others keeping up with best practice, to all who rely to much on agencies, here’s a tried & tested system for you to DIY! Tech is constantly changing the game!
