Ecuador is facing a crisis due to significant energy shortages across the country. This has been caused by the severe drought affecting much of South America in recent months. This situation is impacting not only on our operations, but the entire supply chain and the livelihoods of coffee producers we work closely with. For our team on the ground, this means adjusting production to fit within unpredictable windows of electricity. Starting at dawn or working outside typical hours is becoming routine as they work tirelessly to meet shipping schedules. Meanwhile, we’ve increased our manual selection efforts to ensure that each bean still meets our standards for quality, no matter the obstacles. We thank you for your understanding and support as we navigate these operational hurdles. Your partnership means a great deal to us, and we are committed to upholding the quality and reliability you expect from Caravela, even in challenging times.

It’s been a year since our team Caravela Coffee Peru embarked on a transformative journey toward self-management, and this week we took a bold step forward by setting our 2025 plan into motion—focusing on areas we know need improvement. As a facilitator of this process, I’ve seen firsthand the challenges that come with embracing this new way of working. One of the most difficult hurdles? Encouraging open and sometimes uncomfortable conversations within the team. My role wasn’t just to observe—it was to ensure those conversations happened. At first, the tension in the room was palpable. But as I encouraged everyone to lean into the debate, the breakthroughs started to emerge. By the end, the team came together, forming agreements and crafting actionable plans for the future. What stood out to me most during this process was a single moment. In the midst of a heated discussion, someone from the local team said, “Let’s not forget our purpose.” This simple but powerful reminder didn’t come from me, the facilitator—it came from within the team itself. That’s when I realized the work we, as leaders, had been doing behind the scenes was paying off: our company’s purpose isn’t just something we talk about—it’s something we live and breathe. And that purpose is clear: to ensure specialty coffee is as prosperous as it is delicious. The road ahead is still long, but we are moving in the right direction. Every person in our company plays a vital role in upholding this purpose and ensuring it drives our everyday decisions. I’m proud to be part of a team that’s committed, not just to transforming the way we work, but to ensuring that our values remain at the heart of everything we do. #CaravelaCoffee #PurposeDriven #CompanyValues #TeamCulture #SelfManagement #Accountability #BusinessTransformation #Leadership

We would be delighted to introduce you to one or more of our 600+ producer partners, operating across seven Latin American countries, who are already compliant with EUDR’s original requirements. To learn more about our sourcing practices and due diligence processes, which accelerated our EUDR readiness, our prepared producer partners, or their coffees, please contact us. Mexico has long been one of the most challenging origins for Caravela Coffee and a major hurdle has always been the lack of proper dry milling infrastructure. But that’s changing! With our new, state-of-the-art facility in Oaxaca, we now have full control over the final, critical step in green coffee processing. This means we’re not just improving — we’re setting a new standard. Our partner roasters can now expect the absolute best experience and the finest Mexican coffee the world has to offer. #BetterCoffee is not simply a nice slogan. It is at the heart of everything we do.

At Caravela Coffee, "Better Coffee" isn't just a phrase we use; it’s a promise we live by. A promise to invest in quality, to innovate, and to always put our money where our mouth is. From the beginning, we made a strategic decision to be vertically integrated, giving us unmatched control over the entire production process. As both an exporter and importer, this approach has allowed us to maintain the highest standards of quality and transparency, ensuring that every coffee bean we deliver is exceptional. Today, we’re excited to share a new chapter in our commitment to Better Coffee. Our new dry mill in Mexico is a tangible reflection of our dedication to quality and sustainability. By investing in state-of-the-art infrastructure at the origin, we’re not only refining our control over the physical and sensorial quality of the coffee but also reinforcing our promise to our customers. With our new dry mill, we have the flexibility and efficiency to act quickly on feedback, make necessary adjustments, and uphold the integrity of every coffee we export. This investment is also about creating a positive impact locally—supporting communities, enhancing infrastructure, and empowering people at origin. Attention Coffee Roasters❗️ 7(+1) Key Points to Prepare for EUDR With the EUDR just three months away, here’s what you need to know to stay compliant and protect your brand: 1. Get Informed. Know your supply chain inside-out 🧐. Ask your supplier partners not if, but how they are ensuring compliance. A longer chain introduces more risks and more potential for gaps in traceability. Direct relationships with coffee farms simplify compliance. Simplify your chain, work with partners who have direct ties to producers and take an active role in verifying your partners' readiness. 2. Not in EU? EUDR Affects You Too! 🇪🇺 If you export to the EU, EUDR applies to your business. You’ll need to submit due diligence reports, gather and standardize required data from your suppliers. Make sure your partners and systems are ready for this process. 3. Responsibility Falls on your whole Brand! ☕️ Roasters might not be directly accountable, but are equally responsible. Non-compliance will affect your entire brand, not just a single non-compliant lot, blend or product. A recall or negative attention can damage your reputation and consumer trust. Choose sourcing partners who are prepared and reliable that will mitigate this risk. 4. EUDR Costs shouldn't shift to Producers 👩🏾🌾👨🏾🌾 If your supply chain pushes data collection costs onto producers, that’s a sign of poor risk assessment processes upstream. 🚩🚩 Passing this burden to them is not only unfair but counterproductive. Ensure your relationships support farmers rather than burden them. 5. EUDR Is Not a Certification 🚫 There’s no “EUDR certification.” Compliance is assessed container by container, not company-wide. If someone claims otherwise, it’s a red flag. Compliance requires ongoing due diligence for every shipment. No entity is recognized to "certify" other entities. 6. It’s Not Just About Deforestation-Free Coffee 🌳🌳 Satellite images alone aren’t enough—look for partners with robust traceability systems. Deforestation is just one part of EUDR. Full traceability systems are required to prove that every bean is responsibly sourced, processed and exported independently from non-compliant coffee. Traditional record-keeping won’t cut it. EUDR demands for Investments in systems that meet transparency strict standards. 7. Be Skeptical of ‘Cheap’ Compliance❗️ Sourcing responsibly is a long-term investment. If you’re offered cheap, “compliant” coffee, it likely cuts corners. EUDR compliance isn’t a quick fix; it demands ongoing effort, significant investments and direct relationships. 8. Don’t Be Afraid of Higher Prices— Raise Awarness 👨🏻🏫👩🏼🏫 Use EUDR to communicate with consumers. Fully traceable, responsibly sourced coffee costs more because it reflects real sustainability. Cheap, “responsible” coffee is a myth. Raising awareness among consumers is essential for long-term market support and to ensure EUDR intended impact. Got questions or concerns? Feel free to reach out! ✌️
