UPCOMING WEBINAR: Navigating the Path to Comprehensive Carers' Support ❗️ Carers play an indispensable role in our society, providing essential support to those in need. However, many who provide care don't identify as #carers, remaining "hidden" from the very support systems designed to assist them. Even those who do recognise their role often struggle to navigate the complex landscape of available resources, and may find that existing support options don't fully meet their needs. 💭 In this webinar, we will explore the critical steps necessary to create tailored, effective support for carers. Join us as we explore what research is illustrating about how to can better recognise, engage, and support carers in a way that truly meets their diverse and evolving needs. About us
The Care Policy and Evaluation Centre (CPEC) is an international research centre based at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) working mainly in the areas of long-term care (social care), mental health, developmental disabilities and other health issues. Since 2009, we have been awarded over 130 new research grants, of over £67 million, and have been involved in a number of key policy and practice developments. We have been a research group at LSE since 1996; growing out of the original PSSRU established at the University of Kent in 1974. Until June 2019 we were known as the Personal Social Services Research Unit (PSSRU) at LSE. Our researchers come from all parts of the world and employ a range of methodologies in a variety of disciplines. Our aims are: - To conduct long-term research to help shape the developments of social and health care systems, in the UK and internationally, while also responding to more immediate research needs; - To develop and employ rigorous research methods from a multidisciplinary base; - To examine the performance and functioning of social and health care finance, organisation and delivery, with a particular emphasis on promoting efficiency and equity; - To conduct research that meets the best standards of research governance; - To work towards greater user involvement in research; - To ensure knowledge exchange activities feature as a priority in all activities, and that research findings are shared with a wide range of audiences through a variety of media; - To sustain a vibrant research environment.

Breaking down language barriers! 📢 🧠 Dementia anti-stigma toolkit is now available in Kamba after previous versions of English and Swahili. The dementia anti-stigma toolkit was created as part of the Strengthening Responses to Dementia in Low and Middle-Income Countries (STRiDE) project, in which Kenya participated. This toolkit offers practical resources from seven low- and middle-income countries to address the effects of stigma faced by people living with dementia and their caregivers. It includes firsthand accounts of stigma and discrimination, highlighting the harmful impact on individuals and their families. The toolkit aims to help everyone, including the general public, to better understand dementia and actively challenge stigma. Last week, the STrengthening Responses to DEmentia (STRiDE) project, led by Adelina Comas-Herrera, facilitated a Theory of Change workshop with the projects' public advisors who live with dementia. 🗨️ Following the #TheoryOfChange process, the group - with the support of Erica Breuer and Innovations in Dementia - developed a framework for what improved dementia support looks like in England, and how systematic inequalities can be addressed. ⚖️ The framework developed during the workshop will inform the research findings of the project, which is using innovative methods to develop a deeper understanding of lived experiences of dementi and dementia care across the country. 🌍 #Dementia #DementiaResearch #Impact #SystemChange #Workshop #Facilitation Tom Shakespeare Rachael Litherland

NEW RESEARCH: Adolescents from low-income families with mental health issues face greater earnings disparities until mid-life 💰 In a new journal article published in 'Social Science and Medicine', Sara Evans-Lacko, Paulino Font Gilabert and Martin Knapp draw on data from the 1958 National Child Development Study and follows participants into their adult life to examine the impact on long-term economic outcomes. The study also touches on gender differences and the impact of conduct disorders. As Sara Evans-Lacko says: "Our research underscores the need for policies that not only support mental health but also address the underlying socioeconomic structures that perpetuate disadvantage. Simply improving access to mental health care is not enough; without confronting the systemic inequalities that limit access to care and resources, these patterns of long-term disadvantage will continue." New research published in 'BMC Health Services Research' sheds light on how local authorities can improve long-term care by implementing national guidelines using an innovative participatory #TheoryOfChange (ToC) approach. This study, led by Annette Bauer, Annette Boaz, Erica Breuer, Ties Hoomans, Sarah Jasim, Martin Knapp, Joaquín Mayorga Camus, and Juliette Malley, addresses a pressing global challenge: how to deliver high-quality care in underfunded social care systems. 💡 Key insights from the study: - Long-term care quality is a global issue as the number of people needing support continues to grow, putting immense pressure on care systems worldwide. - Collaborative implementation and evaluation of quality improvement processes are essential. Engaging stakeholders such as frontline staff, carers, and managers ensures that national guidelines are not just adopted but tailored to local contexts for maximum impact. - A participatory Theory of Change approach was used in the study to map how local authorities in England and Wales implement guidelines published by the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE). The study uncovered the importance of “Implementation Support Practitioners” and highlighted key strategies, including co-creation, relational leadership, and overcoming barriers like staffing shortages. By drawing on the experiences of local authority managers, this research provides a practical roadmap for those working to improve care delivery at the local level. It also highlights the need for long-term sustainability and active collaboration to ensure that guidelines result in real, positive change for service users and carers. 🔗 Discover the full insights and implications here: https://lnkd.in/evu6_Xme #LongTermCare #SocialCare #GuidelineImplementation #TheoryOfChange #HealthServicesResearch #QualityImprovement #CareInnovation
