Our team is engaged by bridge owners and developers and to complement teams of construction experts. The Firm was formed in 1983 and founded on the Principals’ extensive experience in design, fabrication and construction of steel, concrete and composite bridges. 300 bridges, comprising over 800 spans have been constructed to Cass Hayward designs. Cass Hayward comprises a team of engineers and technicians dedicated solely to the design and construction of bridges. The extensive experience of our Principals and senior staff is complemented by the flair and enthusiasm of graduates and other trainees. We attract commissions for the production of practical and efficient designs as well as for feasibility studies and sophisticated and advanced analytical studies. We pride ourselves on the quality of the illustration of our design on engineering drawings. Cass Hayward designs bridges for road traffic, rail traffic, pedestrians, cyclists and equestrians which are constructed in steel, reinforced concrete, pre-stressed concrete, timber and modern composites. Mechanical bridges including moveable spans and roll-on, roll-off link spans for ports feature significantly in our impressive portfolio of projects. Our team includes specialists in construction methodology and temporary works design.

🌉 The Peddimore Footbridge Project! Spanning the A38 at Minworth near Sutton Coldfield, this stunning steel tied arch footbridge stands 60 meters long and 6.5 meters wide, with an arch peaking at 20 meters above the highway. Manufactured off-site in Doncaster, the bridge was transported in sections to Minworth and meticulously assembled adjacent to a new roundabout being constructed by Winvic. Thanks for the shout out Graham. I was just a very small cog in a large machine. The condition assessments over the years have been undertaken by #casshayward. My role has been to support Cass which has been keeping an eye out for the mysterious 'shipworm' and to identify and strength grade the timber species used in the trestles, corbels, crossheads and beams.
Great to see #timber been used as an integrated solution in this historic civil engineering project! And all the while the timbers were monitored by the wood scientist John Williams FIMMM #networkrail

One of our engineers and #stem ambassador Diana Lumumba visited her old school The Lakes School in The Lake District to talk with students about a career in #civilengineering. The turnout and enthusiasm were great with a lot of interest in how Diana became a Civil Engineer. She also got to say hello to her favourite teachers!
