We couldn't be more proud of Sam Littlewood, our Lead Process Engineer. An Operational Excellence event was held yesterday at the New York Stadium. There were over 50 delegates in attendance. The event was opened by the Master Cutler, Mr Phil Rodrigo, and Sam's presentation on 'How Lean & Six Sigma is Transforming Castings Technology' was immediately after the ice breaker activity. Sam's training on Lean and Six Sigma was delivered by Whyy? Change... and, due to it's impact, it was then rolled out more widely across the company to include Directors and Heads of Department. Congratulations Sam... and thank you. The feedback on your presentation was excellent.

BETTER LEARNERS BETTER WORKERS LAUNCH THE PRIMARY PROGRAMME On Tuesday 8th October, the Better Learners Better Workers (BLBW) launched the primary programme with Maltby Learning Trust at their new Business Hub. Year 5 Students from across the 4 primary schools came together to hear more about the programme. They also met with the Chair of the Trust, Dame Julie A Kenny DBE DL and also Mistress Cutler, Giselle Rodrigo. Students took part in a workshop designing and creating their ‘Future Self’ as well as writing about their goals for the future, inspired by Dame Julie’s bucket list. They also heard about challenging stereotypes in the workplace and discussed how this could impact them. It was great to see how confident the students were, and the aspirations they have for their future. Thank you to everyone involved! British Manufacturing. Those two words say it all. Wonderful that this organisation has deep roots in the manufacturing community and such great strengths in #Sheffield and the wider South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority. I have the great privilege of sitting next to the remarkable Graham Honeyman CBE as a Non Executive Director of Castings Technology International, whose management buy-out team are transforming the business into a powerhouse of innovation and talent. Only last week we had a visit from some of the most important players on the global security stage who are keen to access the high integrity casting capabilities of this fast growing company. In an increasingly insecure world it is vital to have a strong and resilient manufacturing base, and for governments, national and local, to recognise the role that manufacturing plays in creating stability and balance in a modern economy. In times past Sheffield’s resources and resourcefulness have answered that security call, and provided the technological, scientific and manufacturing base to prevail. It is doing so again today, as the BMC (British Manufacturing Consortium) brilliantly displays.

Yesterday 5yo Cooper came to visit. His school asked all children to be able to talk about what one of their parents does for a living. Dad, James, made sure all the H&S measures and permissions were in place so that Cooper could have a mini tour of site. He had a fabulous time and even got to see a furnace open and close (from a very safe distance). Lots and lots to talk about…

You never really leave Castings Technology! Ray Jolley, a Time Served Pattern Maker, worked for Castings Technology for 25 years before retiring a few years ago! Since then he's come back to help out a fair few times, and last week popped in to say hello to everyone... In fact, thinking about it, many of our team have been with the company a while... in the picture are: Jan Harwood: 17 Year's service Steve Wood: 26 Year's service Jamie Stocks: 20 Year's service Ryan Longden: 21 Year's service Will Jeffs: 40 Year's service Sue Tarr: 39 Year's service Richard Cook: 11 Year's service That's 199 years worth of experience in one photo!
