Therapy, support and information for people with cerebral palsy and their families.

About us

We’re a charity that improves the lives of children and adults with cerebral palsy through specialist therapy, support and information. We’re ambitious for people with cerebral palsy. For over 25 years our therapists have worked alongside people with cerebral palsy, their families and carers, helping them develop practical skills which transform daily life. Founded by a group of determined parents whose children were unable to get the specialised therapy they needed close to home, we’re the only cerebral palsy charity in Scotland. As we’ve grown, the cerebral palsy community continues to be at the heart of everything we do. Our groups reduce isolation, bringing people with cerebral palsy and their families together. Our support service offers a listening ear and advice. We share our knowledge and skills through courses, conferences and working collaboratively. We raise awareness and we campaign for life-long access to knowledgeable, compassionate services and support. Every day in Scotland, people with cerebral palsy are not getting enough support. We need your donations to power our work, so that every person with cerebral palsy can reach their full potential. Please support Cerebral Palsy Scotland today at cerebralpalsyscotland.org.uk.

  • Our CEO Stephanie Fraser spoke on 10 October in the House of Lords in support of improving the rights of #carers in Scotland and across the UK. She highlighted that: ➡ Unpaid carers take on a hugely challenging, diverse and responsible role, but remain invisible and unappreciated. ➡Plans to create a National Care Service in Scotland have yet to result in any material improvements for carers, or for the people cared for, in Scotland. ➡The identification of carers, and supporting them to access available resources, needs to be improved. ➡Care and care services should not be seen as only for the ill or old. ➡The cerebral palsy community need support to live their lives in the same way as non-disabled people take for granted, and being able to recruit good Personal Assistants is crucial to this. ➡The Personal Assistant model, as delivered in Scotland by Enable, is an example which could be seen as an approach that might be replicated elsewhere. We will continue to advocate at every opportunity for improved support for unpaid carers with policy makers and government.

  • Any child up to the age of 18 living in Scotland with a primary diagnosis of #CerebralPalsy can access part-funded specialist therapy sessions at Cerebral Palsy Scotland. Therapy is the key treatment for cerebral palsy and is critical in helping children to reach their potential. How it works: ➡Access therapy with a specialist therapist for £95 per session. (Compared to the full session cost of £175). ➡You and your child will first be invited for an initial virtual assessment with our therapy team, at no cost to you. ➡If you feel therapy would be helpful, you and your therapist will then agree on the number of sessions required. There are many ways to fund therapy sessions at Cerebral Palsy Scotland. Get in touch and, whatever the circumstances, we will take the time to listen to your individual needs, and discuss how we can help. Find out more: https://lnkd.in/eeD6xbtY
