Article | Construction industry roundtable Our Regional Director Peter Banathy was delighted to have recently been invited by the Chartered Institution of Civil Engineering Surveyors (CICES) to take part in a roundtable discussion, addressing some of the challenges facing the UK construction industry. Topics covered included skills shortages and procurement issues, and the potential steps which could be taken to address those problems, alongside the role of technology and innovation within the evolving industry. Last week marked an important milestone as I handed over the Yorkshire Region Chair position, a role I've had the privilege of holding for the past two years. It was a day of mixed emotions—while I'm excited to see fresh energy and ideas being brought into the role by James [Sam] Roberts, it’s always a little poignant to close a chapter that has been such a meaningful part of my journey. During my tenure, I've grown both personally and professionally, learning much along the way. I’m incredibly proud of what we’ve achieved as a committee during my time as Chair—from advancing the diversity of thought and experience within the committee, to increasing engagement levels and delivering impactful activities. Over the past two years, we’ve organized 14 events, launched 4 initiatives, and fostered new collaborations and partnerships—but most of all, we’ve built lasting relationships.  I'm equally proud to be passing on the position to James [Sam] Roberts and his new deputy Pharys (Phaz) Nasser MCInstCES, who I know will continue to grow Yorkshire Committee and strengthen further our offerings even further to the wider membership. As I move on to my next chapter, I carry with me the lessons, relationships, and experiences that have made these two years truly rewarding. Thank you to everyone who has been part of this journey. Here’s to new beginnings and continued success for James [Sam] Roberts, Pharys (Phaz) Nasser MCInstCES and the Yorkshire Chartered Institution of Civil Engineering Surveyors (CICES) region committee. 🚀
