A Church Commissioners for England tenant farmer on the Islip Estate in Oxfordshire has planted 100 willow trees on their farm. The wood from the salix alba caerulea trees will be used to make cricket bats, which are highly sought after by players worldwide for their exceptional quality. 🏏🌳 This innovative initiative demonstrates a unique use of wetland where conventional #farming is less viable. It provides tenants with an alternative income stream while enhancing #biodiversity and sequestering carbon. English Willow will manage the trees from initial planting to harvesting. The firm assists farmers nationwide in utilising their wet, underutilised land to grow trees for cricket bats. The Church Commissioners for England – Real Estate supports tenant farmers across our portfolio by identifying and implementing alternative land uses that offer opportunities for income diversification.
