I had the pleasure of participating in the CECA Conference on Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the Construction Industry recently. The event provided valuable insights into AI applications in infrastructure projects. Moreover, I had the privilege of chairing a panel discussion on the risks associated with AI.
Here are some key takeaways from the conference:
- Privacy/data concerns regarding the use of AI technology, particularly related to personal and sensitive commercial data, as well as intellectual property.
- Worries about workforce displacement and the implications for individuals and their roles.
- Ethical considerations surrounding the utilisation of AI.
- Regulatory risks, which stem from functional risks observed in the industry.
These issues are not limited to a specific sector and likely resonate with discussions within your own organisation.
I extend my gratitude to the panellists, Pavlina Nikolova, @Prof. (Dr.) Samer Bagaeen FRICS MRTPI FRGS, Dr Robert Plana. Robert Plana, and joining us remotely from the west coast USA, Jack J, for their informative presentations and responses to queries. My thanks to the fabulous Nicola Sinclair for working so hard at this through her leadership of the Charitable Trust.
While we acknowledge the known risks, what about the risk of forgoing these technological tools and missing out on the substantial benefits they offer?
What are your thoughts on this balancing act?
