We're embarking on the biggest programme of engineering works on Scotland's canals since the Millennium Link Project re-opened the Lowland network 25 years ago. This year, we're working with Mackenzie Construction to replace 10 lock gates, carry out inspections and repairs, and install a lock bypass on the Falkirk Flight of the Forth & Clyde Canal. If you walk along the route, you'll see that the water levels have been lowered in anticipation of the works. Tomorrow and Thursday, we'll be working with our partners at Forth Rivers Trust on a 'fish rescue' (relocating the fish to other parts of the canal) ahead of full dewatering. Thanks to George McBurnie (our Senior Project Manager working on the project) for this photo. On Friday we attended WaterAid Scotland’s Water-Loo Ball, where an incredible £236,774 was raised for WaterAid to support communities all over the world. WaterAid is empowering people with the tools and the knowledge they need to access clean water and change their lives, forever. As Bronze Sponsors at this year’s event, the Mackenzie Construction team was delighted to support WaterAid and their partners in their mission to provide communities with access to clean water, decent toilets and good hygiene. Thanks to WaterAid Scotland for organising such an enjoyable and successful evening 😎

Preview! Our Senior Project Manager George McBurnie visited Harrisons Engineering (Lancashire) Ltd. last week to see how the new lock gates for the Forth & Clyde's Lock 16 (Camelon) are getting on... Our contractors Mackenzie Construction are currently installing a lock bypass at Lock 16. Once complete, they'll move on to the gate replacement. Why are we replacing the gates? The current gates were installed almost 25 years ago under the historic Millennium Link Project, which re-opened our Lowland Canal Network. Because lock gates are subject to immense water pressures, all weathers, wear and tear - they typically do not last beyond a quarter of a century. That's why we're replacing ten lock gates along the #Falkirk Flight of the canal this year. Here's to another 25 years (and beyond!) of the Forth & Clyde Canal, the grandfather of the world's sea-to-sea canals! Alasdair Hamilton Ross Speirs Jonathan Park #canal #waterengineering

Mackenzie Construction is proud to have collaborated with Scottish Water Horizons , North Lanarkshire Council , and New Monkland Primary School in a recent tree-planting initiative in Glenmavis. Essential sewer system upgrade necessitated the removal of several trees to ensure the success of the critical infrastructure improvements. In response, we coordinated a tree-planting event in the local community green space to offset the environmental impact. At Mackenzie Construction, we recognise the importance of engaging with local communities and inspiring future generations. Pupils from New Monkland Primary School played a key role in this initiative contributing to the regeneration of the local ecosystem. We extend our thanks to all participants, we are proud to together be fostering a sustainable future and enhancing the landscape at Glenmavis. Creating a Greener Future: New Monkland Primary School Pupils Lead by Example It’s fantastic to see young people actively engaging in sustainability! As part of the compensatory measures following a £2 million sewer upgrade in Glenmavis Scottish Water Horizons in partnership with North Lanarkshire Council and Mackenzie Construction helped restore local green spaces through a tree-planting initiative. Pupils from New Monkland Primary School eagerly joined the effort, working alongside the project team to plant saplings and contribute to their community’s regeneration. Beyond tree planting, the school is also participating in our Generation H2O education programme, helping pupils understand the importance of water conservation and sustainability. To support their efforts, we’ve provided a new water fountain and water butt, reinforcing lifelong habits of responsible water use. These young eco-champions are making a real difference, and we are proud to support them in creating a greener, more sustainable future. A huge thank you to everyone involved in this inspiring initiative! 🌱💧 More info: https://lnkd.in/eskCcqUk #Sustainability #EnvironmentalResponsibility #CommunityEngagement #GenerationH2O
