🤩 Here we go again, new project secure! 🚧 📍 Toxteth Reservoir, Liverpool We're thrilled to announce Clan Contracting Limited is tackling a vital restoration project at the iconic Toxteth Reservoir, a Grade II listed structure in Liverpool. This project involves the creation of a large new access point in the southern wall of the Reservoir, penetrating the substantial 3-meter-thick structure. We’ll incorporate a meticulously designed lintel, a credit to the expertise of David Owens from Sutcliffe. This new entrance will open directly onto High Park Street, enhancing accessibility and functionality. This expansion will open up even more possibilities for this popular event venue, filming location, and cherished piece of Liverpool history, as seen in shows like Peaky Blinders 😎. 🎃 Trick or Treat… 🍭 Look at us! Advertising in a newspaper in 1988! Finding this gem was definitely a treat. 🍬 While others might be hunting for sweets tonight, we're thrilled to have found this piece of Clan history showcasing our Patented Wall Ties. 🥳 Back when Margaret Thatcher was the first female PM, Clan was already leading the way in wall tie innovation. By 1984, we weren't just participating in the industry - we pioneered the first Code of Practice for wall tie installation! 😉 But speaking of things that go bump in your walls... let's talk about what REALLY haunts building owners: 𝗔𝗿𝗲 𝗬𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗪𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗧𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗙𝗮𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴? 🏚️ Key Causes of Wall Tie Deterioration: ➡️ 𝗖𝗼𝗿𝗿𝗼𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻: The most prevalent cause of metal wall tie failure is moisture ingress, which triggers oxidation (rust) over time, leading to horizontal cracking, bulging of walls, or stepped cracking around openings. ➡️ 𝗠𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗜𝗻𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗾𝘂𝗮𝗰𝗶𝗲𝘀: Employing low-grade metal or ties incompatible with the specific environment (e.g., standard galvanised steel in high chloride settings) can significantly accelerate deterioration. ➡️ 𝗠𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗦𝘁𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀: Buildings are dynamic structures. Ground settlement, thermal expansion/contraction cycles, and wind loads can exert stress on wall ties. ➡️ 𝗜𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗘𝗿𝗿𝗼𝗿𝘀: Improper installation techniques, such as insufficient embedment depth or neglecting to stagger ties. ➡️ 𝗖𝗵𝗲𝗺𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗥𝗲𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀: In rare instances, specific mortar compositions can react negatively with certain wall tie materials, leading to a loss of bond strength and potential tie degradation. Trust Merseyside's wall tie pioneers to keep your building's structural integrity secure. 😉 Have any questions? Leave a comment below! #wallties #construction #remedialengineering #trickortreat #StructuralRepair #CavityWall

So far… 1️⃣ Stone sampling for petrographic testing ✔️ 2️⃣ Parapet and baluster removal and replacement 🔄 3️⃣ Stone repair and re-pointing 🔄 4️⃣ Facade cleaning 🔄 The team’s been hard at work at 𝑨𝒔𝒉𝒕𝒐𝒏 𝑻𝒐𝒘𝒏 𝑯𝒂𝒍𝒍, and we’re in the facade cleaning phase in some areas—while restoration is still ongoing in others. We’re using Doff to safely lift decades of grime from the delicate sandstone. This low-pressure, high-temperature method (150°C steam) works wonders, leaving the stone’s original features intact. Why Doff? ✅ Effective against biological contaminants ✅ Quick drying method—important when working in unpredictable UK weather! 🌧️ ✅ Gentle on sensitive surfaces like this one ✅ Ideal for polluted environments—a must in urban areas Meanwhile, the new balusters we’re reproducing are looking sharp. We’ll be unveiling them soon—stay tuned! 👀 👀 𝐅𝐨𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐚𝐠𝐞 𝐞𝐱𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐭𝐬: How do you ensure intricate elements like balusters match the original design while meeting modern safety standards? #HeritageRestoration #Stonework #StructuralEngineering #FacadeCleaning #FacadeConservation #FacadeRestoration

The Cannington Shaw Preservation Trust CIC has announced the appointment of Clan Contracting Limited as the principal contractor for Phase One of works to stabilise and repair the No: 7 Bottle Shop – Cannington Shaw. This initial phase of works will see the scheduled monument and Grade II listed building - identified by Historic England as ‘the most intact example of a late 19th Century Bottle Shop anywhere in the world’ - receiving stabilisation work and repairs to protect and consolidate the structure. This has been made possible through £1.3m of funding from the Town Deals programme which aims to regenerate towns and deliver long-term economic and productivity growth John F Tabern, Project Director 💬 "This appointment follows a lengthy and exhaustive process of procurement and tendering, but it was clear from the quality of Clan’s submission that they were the right fit for this initial phase of works. We have been impressed with the swiftness of their mobilisation, setting up at site less than a week after appointment and their willingness to engage with the Trust in all aspects of the project. "‘We at the Trust now have the task of finding the next phase of funding to carry us into the development work required to realise the vision of returning this historic heritage asset to its former glory and a productive and useful future within the town. It will not be easy, but we are determined to ensure the success of this project and will be working hard to achieve this." Welcoming the news on a recent site visit, Councillor Richard McCauley, St Helens Borough Council's Cabinet Member for Inclusive Growth and Regeneration, said: “Seeing the site come to life is a really exciting time and it’s great to see that the Town Deal Fund is supporting projects like this which recognise our borough’s heavily intertwined heritage in the glass making industry and protect this historically important site for future generations with the trust’s bold vision to bring it back in to use for our communities to use once again.” Located on land just past the Steve Prescott Bridge, Cannington Shaw No.7 Bottle Shop was once the site of one of the world’s first fully operational regenerative furnaces for continuous glass bottle production and is one of the few surviving examples of St Helens Borough’s early industrial heritage.

For a while now, Clan's team has been working on the Our Town Hall Project, with Lendlease as the main contractor. We've had the chance to witness all the fantastic transformations this iconic building is undergoing, and we’re proud to have played our part. The lads have been restoring 𝐕𝐢𝐜𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐚𝐧 𝐟𝐢𝐫𝐞𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐜𝐞𝐬, bringing them back to their former glory. 🏛️ They did a fantastic job! 👷♂️ Using 𝐩𝐞𝐞𝐥𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐱 𝐜𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐬, the team carefully applied it to removed built-up grime. Once dried and peeled away, it revealed the natural beauty of the stone ✨ On one of the fireplaces, we also 𝐫𝐞-𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐥𝐢𝐞𝐝 𝐠𝐨𝐥𝐝 𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐟 to its shields, perfectly matching the original craftsmanship. With a transparent sealer and oil-based gold size, the gold leaf was placed with precision, bringing intricate details back to life. 🛡️ Our team also restored 𝐜𝐚𝐬𝐭 𝐢𝐫𝐨𝐧 𝐬𝐜𝐮𝐥𝐩𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞𝐬, using a traditional blackening process to return them to their original, sleek finish. 🖤⚒️ Every step we took respected the Grade I Listed Building’s design, helping to preserve Manchester’s architectural heritage for generations to come. 💯 Have you passed by Our Town Hall lately? We’re thrilled! It's been a brilliant season for Clan! We can’t deny it—we’re just grateful! 🙌 From securing major heritage projects to adding another milestone to our team’s expertise, we’re happy to share that Colin McEllin MCIOB, our Operations Director, has officially become a Chartered Member of the Chartered Institute of Building (MCIOB). 👏 Colin's journey—12 years in the making—proves that it doesn’t matter where you start; it’s about having the grit to keep moving forward. For Colin, being told he "would amount to nothing" by his teachers didn't stop him from reaching incredible achievements. And we're not just talking about him becoming Chartered; we're talking about co-owning two companies and leading significant projects. That’s not easy—it’s definitely not "nothing"! 💪 We’re proud of Colin and look forward to Clan’s future as we continue building towards becoming a Chartered Building Company 🥳 🎊. If you’re on a similar path—keep going. Anything is possible with the right mindset and support. #StructuralRepair #HeritageRestoration #MCIOB #Leadership #Teamwork #ClanContracting #CharteredCompany

Taking on the 𝐂𝐚𝐧𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐭𝐨𝐧 𝐒𝐡𝐨𝐰 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐣𝐞𝐜𝐭 means managing a lot of risks, especially with scaffolding around such delicate structures. But AJS Scaffolding knows its business. Their bespoke scaffolding isn’t just mitigating the risks—it’s actively elevating our confidence in how flawlessly this job is being done. 😉 With their team still hard at work, we’re officially in lift-off mode with the restoration! Our welfare cabin setup is fully in place, the team is tackling the first minor repairs, and we’ve already started clearing debris from some areas. Cannington Show is coming back to life, and AJS is laying the groundwork (literally!) 💪 Cannington Shaw Preservation Trust CIC
